How long have you all been locking????? - 11-08-2009, 10:01 PM

What's up everybody???? I started with breaking and some popping when I was 13, but I found locking in January this year and been lovin' it ever since. Also, are there any Lockers in Otown? I'm the only person at my high school that locks (T__T) Stinks cause I have no one to get funky with. We had a lot in the bay area, but not here

Good to see fellow lockers! I find it sad when people at my school don't know what locking is. Deprived Children I tell you! And yeah HB and GOGO bros. are very good! The first locking videos I watched were HB, GOGo bros., Mr. Doo in the breaking movies, and the lockers on soul train.

That's pretty retarded.

It doesn't matter what the masses think. It doesn't matter if people in your school think you're dope.

You should start trying to impress people who are actually in the scene.

But if you're happy with how things are, then good for you.

I've actually been locking for one and a half years now (I didn't even realize it). I mostly practice during bboying downtimes or just do twirls when I'm on the computer (I do this a lot). Maybe that's why I can't use my legs.

My scoot bots are horrible.

Whoa, that's a long time, Demonhand. I remembered you asking me about it, didn't think you actually got around to locking in the end.

Haha yea I remember that. I never got really serious though, bboying is my "priority dance" if you will. But I LOVE funk music, and I just can't control myself when the funk kicks in. I've been keeping up with video tutorials mostly, just trying to get the basics down, like twirls, points, ups and downs, etc.

I'm not sure I agree with this Benjamin 100%, I agree with you on the fact that it doesn't really matter what the masses think or feel about Locking, and it shouldn't matter what anyone thinks as long as you love what your doing. But as far as Impressing people I don't think you should just try to impress people in only the scene, Locking Started out as a Party Dance and in my eyes it still is! ( theres no better way to boogie and get down) The Original Lockers would go into clubs like The Maveric in LA and turn heads, They were Impressive and people would go out just to see them. I'm sure they mainly went to the clubs cause they loved to dance, but I have no doubt they also went there to impress people with this dance style called Locking. And yes they did. Greg Cambellock Jr. says " Locking is all about the Showtime" and I agree. Yes the times have changed, the music has changed and people have changed. But should we not want to impress people with our dancing? I love going to clubs and Locking it up and have someone come up to me and ask what style of dance are you doing cause its way cool to them and new to most. I useually invite them to come session with me and my friends and tell them to check it out on youtube if they are interested in the style. Cause seriously the best way to grow the scene and brotherhood of locking is to impress the public and to invite people in. Lock it up at your HighSchool, get funky at events like prom, or homecoming. I'm sure people will come up and say thats really cool and maybe even wanna learn. Spread the Funk and the Love.
