what the KOBO judges are looking for -
02-10-2009, 02:05 AM
I made this for the judges to post up what we are looking for in the top 16 battles all the way to the finals.
so if this can get stickied, and if Lobz and 2rok can post up here on what they are looking for too, that would be awesome. I want to see: Character-et me see who you are, your persona! don't be a robot, be organic. Musicality-SO along with this, DANCE! bboying isn't just a show case or sequence of pasted moves, I want to see you use the music and rock to it. Show me that you acknowledge there is music playing. Execution - Stick ur shit! don't throw moves that you "haven't perfected yet" use moves and freezes that you can stick consistently. The key to winning a battle is using what you HAVE in your arsenal, not some "cool" move that u are working on. Creativity - I cannot express this enough, Tell a story with your dance. I want your moves to make sense and to flow. How you transition from move to move, footwork to freeze etc. A simple freeze can be an incredible blow up if you get into or out of it using creativity. If you do a thread, dont just do a thread and get into some thing random....use the thread meaning THREAD INTO SOMETHING! look at it this way, would you throw a random sentence or fragment onto a page and expect everyone to know what its supposed to mean?? FULL PARAGRAPHS please Well rounded - this speaks for itself with all this being said, altho its an E-battle...it is still a battle. The rules of a battle still apply, meaning OUT DO YOUR OPPONENT and use strategy. If you follow ur opponent's round, out do them any way you can and win the round! If you start the round, rip your set and make urself untouchable! that is all. for now. |

thats because people spend too much time watching videos rather than experimenting with whats right in front of them.
like in my explanation, a simple freeze or move ( i.e laying on ur stomach holding ur leg) can be very dynamic depending on how you get in or out of the move. Its not that hard, people tend to try to make things more complicated and more complex than it needs to be. Complexity doesnt necessarily go hand in hand with creativity. a little analogy from Dr. GOof: When asked to connect 2 dots, most people will draw a straight line, from point A to point B. but How many people will think out of the box and use a squiggly line to connect A to B? not hard to do, but not the first thing that comes to mind either. 2 dots are still connected, just more in a creative manner. ***deep thoughts*** If u have problems being creative, u may be in the wrong field. u might as well join gymnastics and follow the rule book. |

Power conditioning is good! again gettin in and out of power moves with your floorwork can make u a very devastating bboy. One of my conditioning techniques (that i taught blu) is doing long power combos and focus on ur breathing. Flare mill flare mill flare mill flare, as much as u can. combining 2 or more combos but push urself to keep going. Most importantly u gotta focus on breathing, breathing allows oxygen to your body and muscles, thus letting ur body work better. Breathing will also let ur mind focus better and with less straining. breathe on beat will help remember to breathe, and also eventually allow u to do power moves on beat. oh and B2K, ur my inspiration ![]() |
