a few possible fixes for yur kip-up -
07-20-2006, 02:49 AM
jst browsing thru teh threads here, i'm hopin my method of doin kip-ups will help some ppl with theirs. I'm pretty much a bboy n00b, but my kip-ups are solid, w/o a question.
=-THINGS TO NOTE-= a) momentum- more momentum means more potential energy to exert in teh move b) safety- lets be honest..its breakdancing, and my method isn't teh most orthodox c) practice- once again..^ =-MY WAY-= 1) You can start this however is more comfortable for you, either from a crouching position, or from on yur back, w/e works, jst start there. 2) Roll backwards, of course with a slightly curved back so you roll and don't flop. (If you started from your back, it may be a lil more difficult to build that momentum, in which case yur pretty much going to wanna throw your lower body back liek u want to kick yur legs over yur head. This pretty much eliminates teh next step, and makes step 4 much easier) 3) Now this is where it gets a lil screwy. Roll backwards, onto your neck/back of yur head and shoulder blades/shoulders. 4) Your legs should have naturally rolled back with you, and at this point thrust them (while pushing slightly off of yur neck/head/shoulder points) almost straight up direction wise, but your legs themselves should be slightly bent. 5) as you begin to go up, sorta.."buck your hips" (for lack of a better term) to avoid coming right back down how you started. By doing this, you should rotate enough so that you can land safely on your feet. =-THINGS TO NOTICE-= a) At no point do i actually use my hands liek you would normally learn with teh more conventional way. REASON: It seems that many ppl hav problems getting their upper body off teh ground in which case they either fall on their ass or end up sorta.."bridging" the move. The same happened with me, and i noticed it was because with using my hands/arms, my upper body was bent in a way that didn't let me get the maximum amount of push i needed. By using this method, its also less painful if you mess-up, because your arms aren't being forced into teh ground at odd angles, rather you jst flop on yur back. b) There aren't any pics/vids to accompany this. REASON: Its 2am here, and i'm not bouncing around wakin my house up. I'll have a vid up ASAP though Hope this helped some .:`~Kai~`:. |

yea, that part is a lil hard to explain...when i get teh vid up it'll help, but teh best i can do in words:
if yur following teh steps above to most points, when you push up with yur legs, u'll notice how since u rolled back yur butt is pushed more out than yur legs of course, and this still hold true somewhat while kicking up. By almost jerking yur hips inward, (which in this case is back towards yur head) it'll help propell yur legs/feet forward and around so you can land, and assist yur body in bringing yur upper-body back up as well. If that's still confusing (which i don't doubt) then sadly u'll hafta either have some1 else help ya and/or wait for teh vid. (Which i'm working on getting put up, its jst a matter of fixing my camera and all that junk) .:`~Kai~`:. |

its rly not a matter of how large u are all in all, i've seen some pretty big ppl breaking, and they're amazing. its a matter of being able to influence {cuz i wouldn't say yur controlling it} yur momentum to help you up. Its a matter of taking whatevr weight that's going backwards when u roll back, and being able to exert that same amount of force in the up and out direction.
now that yur confused from that, "easy" "hard" etc aren't rly words i'd use, since its a matter of yur determination. liek i said, this is a guide as to what works for me, try a few suggested methods, and then jst sorta mess around to see what works for ya. and at that point write a lil article liek this to let ppl kno wat u did! .:`~Kai~`:. |

~.:Eat Death & Drink Sorrow:.~ ~.:As is the way of the revenant:.~ flame me if u want, idc, but i recently started pursuing my modeling career, if any and all can do me a favor, follow teh link and cast yur vote i appreciate it.
