I think I know what you want, I'll try to explain it, and I'll try to get a camera to show you but...

What you are going to want to do for roll-back to headstand is...

1) Roll back like a regular kip up.
2) When planting your hand roll back a little more and (for me) use your stomach muscles to actually push your body straight up, while kicking mostly up, and slightly back.
3) Keep you head tucked like a regular kip-up and use your hands for balance.

Again this isn't the best, but I'm also typing this during a class so give me break!

I know what you are talking about. There are a few jamskaters that do this. I know a few people have heard of jamskating since it uses alot of breakdancing in it, if not you can check it out at www.TeamRiedell.com But anyway. To do just the move itself, sitting down on the ground, lean forward a little bit then lean all the way back, as if your going into a kip, but instead of planting your hands and stopping, plant your hands and keep moving back, after that you will straighten your back out and brace yourself with your hands it'll take a little practice to get it because your momentum will make you roll all the way over, like a summersault (sp?). You'll have to use your arms to stop your self while your up on your head. I would split my legs apart a little so you aren't as tall and so your weight doesn't want to fall over as easy. Once you get it you can mess with it alot and even move into some of the handstand moves.

damn, i thought this thread was dead and gone, hey Ryu you don't need to be able to stand up from a bridge to do a kip up...i can't even stand up from a bridge and i can do regualr kip ups, no rolling kip ups, and i'm working on a head freeze to kip up. Standing up from a bridge just helps out alot, that's all. All you have to do is keep practicing, start off by breaking it down:
1) Lay down flat on your back
2) Roll your legs until your knees are right in front of your face
3) Stop there and think about your hand placement, try to keep it shoulder length apart and right behind your head
4) Kick out at a 45 degree angle, there are a lot of ways the people suggest this, for my house i can just aim my feet at the cornor where the side wall and the celing meets. When you kick push off with your hands, flex your abs.
5) Try to land on you feet

These all apply to doing a regular kip up...except for number 3 because when you do it you aren't going to stop, you're gonna use your momentum of rolling back to help you launch foreward. Just remember when you roll back, roll straight back and stop on your shoulder blades, also as always keep your chin tucked in. Don't think about it too much or else you'll psych yourself out.

alright i'll try, the best thing you can is just keep practicing, you know what you are doing wrong (not getting your upper body up) whenever you land, you brain is going to unconiously take a mental note on what you are doing wrong. Practice enough and you'll eventually get it. Seriously i practiced them for like 3 hours plus everyday for about 4 weeks and one day i was just like BAM!! i can do kip-ups, for me it was seriously just like that. Now i can consistantly do them whenever i'm on my back.
Lets see, i'm going to start off by asking if you've read the sticky on kip-ups? It like the first topic in the kip up section, its seriously really fucking good. Try to download a video of someone doing it and copy them also.
Now, to a couple things that i'm gonna guess, since you aren't getting you're upper body, well up and over enough you either aren't kicking hard enough, aren't pushing hard enough with your hands, or you are kicking in the wrong direction. I can just flop my legs and get them in the right position.
One thing you need to do is not think about what you are going to do, you know what you need to do and what it should look like, and if you think you only mess yourself up. Just lay down, roll back, place your hands shoulder width apart, and kick out with as much strength as you have while pushing off with your hands. its like all the cool moves, you think too much, you psych yourself out, and you fuck it up. its what i'm working on with my suicides, i tend to think too much.
But just from what you wrote i'm gonna say if you know your legs are going at the correct angle, then kick harder. Honestly man, i was flopping around like a freshly caught fish until i got it.

question

i dont like walk straight, like my feet are kind of pointed out

and i find when i practice with my shoes on when i kick up, my legs point out like that, like in a V

would thia affect the move or no?
because i know legs should be pretty together and this only happens with my shoes on

that might affect it, i walk with my feet out a little bit too. i don't think that if you keep your feet out it'll affect your kip up, just as long as you keep your legs striaght. Here's my posture when i've rolled back and am just about to kick:

Head tucked so chin is on sternum
Hands shoulder-width apart and right behind head
Kness almost touching chin
Resting on shoulder blades
Legs hip width apart (very important to keep them like that when you kick)
Feet pointed up
Flat on back

I know it is harder to do a kip-up if you don't kick straight, the only thing i can say is to contiously make an effort to keep your legs straight and not let them flare out.

question, when u do it, do u chamber ur legs in and kick or do u bring em behind ur head, roll a lil forward, chamber and then kick?

which one is better for a noob?

definatly chamber first. you shouldn't be rolling foreward at all, you should only roll back, pause for less than a second, then kick. if you start to roll foreward then you might as well think of something else cause it's gonna take a miracle to actually complete a kip up.

hope that helps, let me know if you got any more questions
