Rubberbands guide - 06-26-2004, 05:00 PM

OK Im in a helpful mood so I decided 2 post this.

Firstly, kip/kick ups must be down. For n00bs this is rollin onto your shoulders and kicking off 2 land on your feet.
Find a good surface. Something that won't hurt you or that won't stop you from landing. If you have a mattress 2 put on the floor thats great, but carpet or grass will do.
Sit on your butt to start, now roll back on your shoulders and hands for momentum, and kick up and out with your legs nad push with your hands.
This takes practice, and learnin kip ups are the key to learnin rubberbands.

With rubberbands be careful. This can hurt if done wrong.
A good surface is REALLY needed
OK, do a kip up, but don't stand up. Do it so you are crouching.
Quickly jump back on your upper back (If you are feeling back pains, its likely you are jumpin back on your BACK. You must use your shoulders.) Put your arms by your head, hands so they should be heading towars the floor. This should act as a bit of a cushion to lessen the impact on the rest of your body. You should now be ready to do a kip up again. If you can do this continuously then YOU CAN DO RUBBERBANDS!!!

I think this guide is up to scratch but if you've got any probs just post them.

PEACE.

man, the times i have worked on Rubber bands, then the couple time i actually jumped back correctly with my hands back there, my hands were behind my head, so my head landed on my hands, not fun, then i have had those times where i dont jump up enough, and land on my back.....oh man, what a pain, one day though, one day.

Bboying is what you make it.

You shouldn't try to land on your head, but on your upper shoulder, (I know you probably never heard people use the term upper shoulder, but it is what you use) and your head should be close to the floor.

And putting your hands down really helps. I can only do no-handers on a crash mat.

And I think "Rubberbands" is 2 words, that is why hardly anyone has replied.

Well you DO land on your shoulders, but high up, so the bottom of the back of your neck hits the floor.

When I mentioned surfaces, I know some B-Boys will have access to a trampoline or mattress. These arn't really needed, but they are the best things to do rubber bands on.

weeho, trained today on rubberbands. I've known kipups and nohanded kipups since i was 13 yrs. Managed to do some 2-3 rubberbands ! Gonna practice some more.

just a tip to ppl who're trying this. Don't be afraid. If you do it right it won't hurt. and if you fail, it'll hurt a little, not as much as yuo expect. maybe you'll slam the air of off your lungs sometimes but it's alright.

And when landing, land and soften the landing using your hands, then go on to you upper shoulder. Keep the left / right balance though. I sometimes land on right shoulder only, and that hurts :P ! all the bodywheight on right upper shoulder. *ouch*

peace out.

You must have been a bgirl, cuz the only movez you pulled on me was heartbreakers
