Well, man, actually its is like that, kick, then push. Normally, this movement should come naturally. When I was learning kip-ups myself, i thought that the movement of hands and legs should be dont at EXACTLY the same moment. But, actually, u gotta push wit ur hands a bit after u kick. Dont worry, itll come naturally, just practice. Peace

Lol, thanx dude. I remember what happened 2 me when I was learning the Kip-Ups. I, myself, slammed my back on the ground about 1,000 times, no joke. I kept walking around with a badly bruised back. But now I don't regret it because this trick comes really useful periodically for breakdance routines and stuff. Props 2 the guy who invented it! It really does come useful! Peace

It took me 1 month to learn it. I practiced at school and at home. It's easy now. I could do no hands and hands. ALso 1 handed too It is true it is spring action not push action. The push of your arms give support and when you are ready try with not hands... You have yobring your legs so it's like 4 or 3 inches from your face and spring... like... Just look at the vids and you'll know what I mean

you gotta kick and push at the same time, it just looks like its seperated cus it takes time to spring yourself up. Just remember to spring like all hell diagnol or u land on your bak

newbs should also know that when they do the initial roll back, if they point the soles of their feet toward the ceiling, then kick UP vertically, they can get into a handstand and basically go into maybe, l-kicks, airfreezes, or handstand moves, 90s and whatnot, its pretty useful for combos.

you're doing it WRONG if you feel like you dont have enough upper body strength to do this :-D, the entire actual movement is done with your LEGS propelling the shooting of your body in the upwards direction, and your arms are ONLY used for control of direction and some balance and support, there should only be little or no strain on the arms during the move

Something you forgot to mention. You also need a bit of stomache muscules or if you're thin, you're better than me. I'll shut up now.

I got no handers down after like 10 tries yesterday, nice! somneone in another thrtead said thrusting your arms helps, It definitely worked for me...thrust your arms out in the same direction that you kick your legs, and thrust everything really hard!

Does anyone have any tips for 180s? I think it might just be a faith thing for me, I can have my upper body turned 180 when I land but my feet still haven't switched yet. Where should I be getting my torsional force from? Hips? Arms? you tell me!
Thanks to all the people who posted above it really helped

its a windmill action with your legs when you're turning, just try to do the initial kick for a backspin, but instead of SPINNING your upper body, you ROLL it over, also make sure to keep your legs spread out and STIFF enough to keep the windmill motion throughout the entire move, you should end up with your feet on the floor and MAYBE your hands pushing yourself upward a bit, also try to bend your hips in such a wayso that if you stayed that way, when you end up with feet on the floor, your ass sticks out behind you, like in some vids here they show you how to do flares, you end up with your but sticking upward, feet spread and maybe one hand on the floor. *wondering if that makes sense* im NOT double checking that lol.

edit: forgot to mention, the spinning force comes from your HIPS, with your legs spread out, your legs just generate the momentum, your hips creates the initial force for it

bridge kips... - 04-13-2004, 12:17 AM

kick harder, and if you push harder with your hands, you'll rotate forward in the air more, so you will not do a bridge...wow that is wierd, def Kick harder I think thats the problem

lol, raise your upper body with the kick up.
say, when you roll backwards, wait did i mention that? remember to roll backwards, and when you SPRING your legs upward in the diagonal direction, bring your head and shoulders (not the shampoo) forward, might help if you brought your hands FORWARD also, THROW your hands forward with your spring, when i say forward, you'll actually bring them down in a 90degree angle, like, when you start the kip-up, they'll be behind your head, bring them from there in a DOWNWARD direction and keep them forward and try to "place your weight" into them to "pull" you in the forward direction, tell me if that was any help
