Currently, I'm very good with kip ups.
The trick is kickin' hard with your legs in a diagonal way. Nowadays I can kick 'em vertically, wich I think is more stylish and allows ya to nearly land where ya back were layed down.
I think the bed isn't very good to start really, 'cause it'll do half the work for ya. That's not good, 'cause you'll have an higher odd of failing while doing it on the floor.
If ya are afraid of doing it on hard floor, do like I did when I first started: flat beach sand is great to train kip ups. Once you managed it there, you'll do it wherever ya want with great style, jumpin' high, since you won't have the sand burieing your back.
I actually learned alot of tricks on the beach. Flips and jumpi'n stuff...and your training while breathing some fresh hair and watching the sea, it's awesome.
