Rubberband (aka Back2Backs) Guide /w VIDS -
04-01-2009, 01:06 AM
This is my first guide, tell me what you think of it.
I recently learned how to rubberband pretty well imo, so I guess I'll post a guide. UPDATE: ADDED VIDS Before doing rubberbands, first you need kip-ups down pat. Here's how to kip up. I'll add pics and vids later. --------------------------------------- Know how to do what I call pops. Lie on your upper back, with your legs tucked in. While lying down, just kick hard with your legs straight up, and your entire body should jump up a few inches. Do NOT use hands yet. This is just to get the leg motion down. And yes, landing flat on your back hurts a little. Deal with it. Be sure to have consistent pops. If you get winded, your doing it right. Here's a video: ---------------------------------------- Now for the kip up. Start in a sitting position, legs tucked in a little bit. Roll back onto your shoulders and place your hands on both sides of your head. Fingertips should be facing towards your body. Your legs should be fully tucked, with your knees almost in your face. Make sure that you're high enough on your shoulders and head. For beginners, you'll need to perform this step IMMEDIATELY after Step 2. You want to kick with your legs straight up, like the pop you just learned. Then push with your hands. Legs BEFORE hands. That's important. Now that you're in midair, try to swing your head forward and your legs down. If you do it right, you'll twist midair and land on your feet in a crouching position. It's ok for now if you put your hands out to balance. Just practice. Then practice without using your hands to balance at the end. Then practice without using your hands at all. This is so you'll get the leg motion nicely. ---------------------------------------- I'm assuming you have perfect kip ups if you're reading this. Because now, you're gonna learn to rubberband. You might want a padded ground. It starts with just a normal kip up. Now look at something about 45degrees from the ground. From the crouching position, jump backwards. Have your hands way out behind your head. I sometimes pull my elbows far back, just to be safe. When you fall, it should not hurt very much. You should be landing on first your hands, then your upper back, with your head tucked, still looking at that something. When you fall, be sure to swing your legs back in a V shape. That will make your rubberbands look nice. Now bring your legs together and kip up again. And keep repeating. These steps should be done very quickly, the whole lasting maybe only 1 - 1.5 seconds. And this time, if it hurts, you're not doing it right. ---------------------------------------- Some tips that you may or may not find useful. If you're always landing flat on your back, learn by just rolling into each rubberband. You'll get the jumping motion down, just slower. Bring your hands WAY back. Exaggerate it. REALLY far back. ---------------------------------------- - BBoy Huey tell me if I should change anything up |
