dude, you have no idea how much your guide helped sum1datbboys! I just started learning nike's (well, sort of) in about 45 minutes. I'm a total newb...as of last night, I literally couldn't even do a two handed handstand for more than 2 seconds (probably still can't), and I could barely do a sloppy 1 handed handstand for like less than 1 second. I had no idea how to get into a pike or a nike until i saw your vid posted above, and now I can consistantly hold this bastardized version for a solid second and get out of it crisp and clean....please critique:
I'm thinkin that i need to get the front of my hips pointed up more so that i'm more folded over at the waist, sorta like your pikes. Basically what I did is practiced cartwheels, trying to do em as clean and stretched out as possible, with concentrating on getting my feet as directly above me as possible. Then i tried doing the cartwheels as slow and controlled as possible. Pretty soon, I was initiating cartwheels but stopping the momentum before putting my second hand down, tryin to balance on one hand. After that, it was only a matter of time before i got one leg stretched with a hand on it. p..s, i'm not at all flexible so i cant get my hand closer to my foot yet. Well, let me know what you guys think. thanks again for the help, i was wicked discouraged before but now i feel like i am actually learning something. |

nice work! u just need to turn your hips so that they're facing up more, like u said. then your legs can be closer to your head. then u can grab your foot. just keep practicing turning your hips, then your nikes would look awesome!
these are the latest pictures of my Nike and L kicks: http://www.bboy.org/gallery/showphot...to=40050&cat=2 http://www.bboy.org/gallery/showphot...to=40051&cat=2 |

My pike guide
My L kick guide Breakin' was something that society didn't know about, it was something too new for them to even understand, and because of their ignorance to it and lack of knowledge about it, they got scared, and the first thing they do when they get scared about something is to try and stop it... |

well its not really a true nike yet but i can hold it for long enough that it looks controlled, like for 1 second. i think whats more important than how long you can hold it is how clean you get into and out of it; i think if you can do it crisp (even if you cant hold it for very long) you can give the illusion that you are in control and could hold it longer if you wanted to.
Anyway, I'm havin a real hard time improving my nike from the above photo...I think I'm just not flexible enuff to get it any better. I guess i have some stretching to catch up on, haha |

hey your nikes are looking good! with that bent leg, it doesn't really matter where it is, but try to have it pointing up more.

This is a cool guide. I learned to do it a slightly different way, which was not having to turn your hips (I mean I'm already facing out instead of the ground when I start the L kick). But doing it this way is probably easier to learn than my way, because it's easier to get your legs up this way.
