Arrow The world's greatest L-kick guide....(and yes L-kicks need guides for some ppl) - 09-14-2004, 12:19 AM

L-kicks are easy jus try to put that in your brain

The L-kick is originated from capoeira (the capoeira name is aubatido). There are like three main variations to the aubatido (develop maninly from breaking)...these being the L-kick where two of your feet are form an "L"......then there is the k-kick which calls for more flexibility which is shape like a wide L or a K with a segment missing....then they are Nikes where the kicking leg keeps straight but the trailing leg bends....look at the pics.....this is my first time posting more than one pic so bear wit me.

pre-requisites for the L-kick is to learn handstands (for stability not actually need), cartwheels and one hand cartwheels to get the feeling of the move (not really needed either lol but gives more of an advantage).

when beginning, to get the feel of the move......go down slowly and place your hand on the ground and try to kick over (dont actually do the kick but jus give a little jump so u get the feel of the move).....make sure u dont place your hand directly horizontal, unless it might happen that your hips are prevented from turning over.

Im goin to explain as if im goin to my right side (i can do both sides but right is my best).

1. Rock to your left jus slighty jus to get a lil stretch reflex so u could get momentum when u place down your hand.

2. Place your hand down slighty infront of you to the right and dont think about going right over like a cartwheel unless your kick is gonna look ugly and u wouldnt b able to freeze the kick either.

3. The placing of your hand is more like a hop and what u have to do is slightly.....VERY SLIGHTLY.....hop onto your hand...but really its more hoppin off the floor with the feet than onto the hand...this means only when u are like 2 inches u jump off the floor.

4. When do that slight hop off the floor and u have place your hand down...kick your leg over towards your head....try to make sure your trailing leg is not doing anything as yet.

5. Many say they dont have the flexibility to get this kick done but most of the time the need to turn over their hip....so when u kick turn over your hip....this is so your leg like your knee would touch your obliques or intercoastals (your side lol).

6. To turn over your hips let them rock back slightly.....REMEMBER I SAID HIPS NOT TRAILING LEG, until u feel a tightness like a lock.....this is what gives the freeze.....when your hips rock bak u dont only turn over but u get the freeze aspect

Two tips:
When u place your hand on the ground try place it very close to your feet (i make the slight hop so my hand goes like where my trailing leg was).

When u go into the kick try not to think about getting inverted (vertical)...think about being horizontal....be ready to take a few falls...only a few trust me.

i cant post the pics now but i'll do that lata L-kicks are easy jus try to put that in your brain

Try to kick yourself in the face.....it helps with the turning over of the hips

When u go into the kick try not to think about getting inverted (vertical)...think about being horizontal....be ready to take a few falls...only a few trust me....

Its all about power.....flexibility isnt all that much needed ya know but its how much power u put into the kick to get it to your face.....thats the only way u will get the l kick freeze (if u wanna freeze the kick.....which i think is cooler than jus kicking) unless u will fall back to the ground in no time.......by the way one last thing.......too much power cause like a stretch reflex where the momentum of your kick will send your foot bak to the ground even doh u got the kick done

i cant post the pics now but i'll do that lata....

not sure if this could make a sticky....yall b the judge

"Who ever had the nerve to say "teach me", was considered a sucker, a lil' bitch-ass punk. So you never asked no one to teach you, you never clapped when a nigga did a good move, you just stood there and acted hard, like it didn't phase you. It was all about attitude, everyone else did the clapping, not the B-Boys."

Seriously what u said was actually funny.....and i use to b jus as immature as u saying stuff like

.......forever
but then i found out that ppl didnt even know how to do stuff like cartwheels....and i was SHOCKED......

this guide is jus to show all the fine or major points that ppl do wrong in their l kicks or k kicks....so that they could improve them and understand how the kick is really done.....this guide is to allow them to get a PERFECT L KICK.....so when they get to pikes and other variations, they would have the balance and coordination they need and even STYLE

this is not too offend u but most ppl like u can get an l kick done.....but can hardly even freeze it or do other variations OR jus dont do the l kick properly......NOT SAYING U ARE LIKE DAT....but recognise everyone doesnt learn as fast as others.....cause seriously i was shock to see a guide for top rock

oh well PEACE \V/ OUT

thanx a mill....but i understood why u posted yours......to me it seems that your guide really wasnt a guide but jus a short guideline for how the move suppose to look and is done.

your guide wit the variations was ok...but thats mainly jus like giving ppl ideas rather than teaching.

anyways thanks and peace

hahahahahahaha.

you wouldn't beleive how a lot of my friends need this guide.

1. i am the only one who does l-kicks understanding the technique at school. it sucks sooooo hard.
2. ONE friend can do good nikes.
3. ONE friend does a VERY incomplete pike.
4. Everyone else either does perfect l-kicks apart from the fact that they are too SMOOTH with it. They don't understand the 'tweaking' of the hips.

Ppl in Thailand come help me because i'm a BAAAAD teacher. can i use your guide to help them?

Thank you for everything.
