How does one do a split?

The kind that Prince, and James Brown made popular back in the funky days?
They stretch thier legs out some how with one leg extended in front of the person and the other in the back of the person.

But how is it done without pain?

That must take some enormous stretching power.

WELL< ihave been able to do the stlits for quite some tiME,(through ballet / gymnastics) to get it you hafta try to do the splits each day, but each day push yourself down more... spend like 15 mins to a half hour every day trying....once you think its as far as you can go, push youself a tad bit more andTHENholdFOR like at least 5 MINs.... once you can go the splits, stand the slid down into the splits... do that like 10 times for like two days.. then try sstanding(straight) THen slide down INto the splits< then try to push YOUr self up with youR LEGS>>>> its really hard to just use yOUR legs SO YOU can use your hands to help push you up< and it wiLL GIVE IT the sameEFFECT.

ya... the other leg goes all the way back... ( looks like the kinda splits you see in gymnastics and ballet most often) thats what you want it to look like.... ..unless you cant do the splits after all the advise i gave you... (you should) then you can mabey try the half split... (the back leg would justbend backwards... and then go down and up like that... its alot easier, but it doesent look as good ....

one last detail... to do the splits, if you havent done it for a while or ever, it will hurt..... theres no way to not make it hurt... it will go away after a while of doing it, and once you get the splits, do it ever day, holding it for at least a min, so then youll always be able to do it.. ............

I need to get used to the pain of doing splits. Body conditioning is a pain, but pain can be good. Pain means you are alive.
