Arrow Applejack and V-Kick Tutorial - 09-28-2009, 09:43 PM

Hey guys, sorry it took so long. Life has been hectic. But here it is!! Here's the video guide, and the text guide is directly below that. This is my first guide so be gentle lol

Ok, so the text guide will be broken down into two parts. The first part being for Applejacks, and the second for V-Kicks. Enjoy!

Applejacks:

Prerequisites: None really. Kip ups are helpful but not required.

Alright, so this is a pretty basic move. It is not really used very much for transitioning, except into V-Kicks, but once you get better at it you can do some variations of it and invent your own ways of going about doing it. Shall we?

Step 1.
The first part is almost the whole move itself. It's the initial kick. You'll start in a crab position and kick one of your legs straight up into the air. What you want to aim for is kicking as high as you possibly can. One way to think about it is to imagine kicking yourself in the head. You won't actually kick yourself though, as long as you keep your leg perfectly straight it will not happen

Step 2.
The second part is coming back up. This part can be a little tricky if you're just starting out. After you kick up you want to use all the strength in you abs to bring yourself back up into a sitting position. Another important key in this step is the kick down. After you're leg goes into the air it has to come back down of course, so really push it down and use that momentum to help bring yourself in to the sitting position. This part is more about coordination and balance, sincce it is a bit harder, but with constant practice you will get it like I said, it's not that hard of a move.

tips:
Try to look up at the ceiling after you kick. You'll be able to kick higher and it will give you a better sense of how V-Kiscks feel.

V-Kicks:

Prerequisites: Applejacks, maybe kip ups.

Once you can comfortably Applejack with both legs, you might want to move on to V-Kicks. They are a whole other animal though. They're not exactly difficult, but they require persistence. A V-Kick is basically an Applejack with two legs in the air instead of one. They're not a good transitional move, like Applejacks, but they're good in footwork sets and such. Get ready!

Step 1.
Just like in Applejacks, the first move is the kick. But unlike the Applejack, this part is usually the hardest for most. The reason being is because they usually just fall backwards when they kick up, since you have less balance when you're only on your hands. This is where practice is a must, you won't get it otherwise. Jump back onto your hands and kick up straight with your legs. Like in the Applejack you want to look back up at the ceiling. this will get your kick higher and more flashy.

Step 2.
This step is basically exactly the same as step 2 in Applejacks. You're kicking back down to bring yourself back up into a sitting position. Again using your abs to sit back up. The momentum of your legs will help. Think of it as a kip up, that might help, it helped when I was learning them. Your legs will be up in the air like when starting a kip up so just imagine it as the same motion. Just practice and you'll get it soon!

tips:
Hand placement is an important factor. You want to make sure your fingers are pointing BEHIND you. It gives you an extra edge when you are on your hands and have little balance. It can help with, or completely eliminate the problem of falling bakwards.
When you kick, kick HARD and kick HIGH. Otherwise you'll probably end up on your ass after you kick.

That's about it! Thanks for checking it out and I hope this was at least a little helpful. If you're still have any problems feel free to reply to this post or to message me. I'll be more than happy to help

peace.

Quality tutorial! As I was watching I was wondering how the heck I would transition into this, but you gave the answer at the end with the examples. Good work!

yeah it took me a while to find good ways of transitioning into them, and those are the best two ways to go about it quickly. i'm sure there are better, more technical ways, but we'll justhave to find those out ourselves i guess i'm thinking of making a sub-video on transitioning into this move.

thanks a lot guys. do you guys think this is sticky material?? i was hoping it would be, but if not it's cool lol as long as it helps people out
