about the history of breakdancin post earlier - 07-07-2004, 03:42 AM

if u check that yall will notice that it is similar to all other historical references about James Brown......but to me James Brown was really great but he definitely wasnt the person who started tracks, mills, spins etc..........Shockin to see that most of articles on history of break dancin doesnt say anything much for how these power moves started.

There is without a doubt that it started from Capoeira (Regional-Senzala)....they r too much alike......trust me i do both and of all the insignia's which both disciplines hold r the k-kick or l kick in breakdancin but it is known as the aubatido in Capoeira. Im very sure when respected mestre's such as Mestre Bimba went to the US to teach they were in the New York area.....and it is said many of the students used the skillz they aquired in dance.....around the same time breakdancing or power moves came into play

I would rather recommend a person to do capoeira first than to start bboyin rite away if he or she wants to become conditioned b4 beginin

oh yeah look at the top rock and other foot movements.....from seeing those sometimes i wonder if James Brown ever had anything to do with modern breakin.....if u see the ginga (the basic movement in capoeira like a swayin motion....actually means swing from the verb gingar) and ground moves like the role and negativa and esquiva etc......

Even check how ppl battle in circles mainly....capoeirista play in a roda which is also a circle and normally only 2 persons in the circle....i wish someone had solid evidence (we all know yeah it breakin did originate from capoeira but at what time).....To me i see a mordernised capoeira

oh well...here we go again...man...
...James Brown had nothing to do with modern breakin (well maybe the toprock)...right...these new moves weren't invented at the time...bboyin was evolving and still is...j.b...gave the movement of the body and the energy of the toprock so people started bustin moves on the floor like him (footwork)...if u read carefully u saw that bboying was not about powermoves back in the days...it was about footwork and toprock....later on came the powermoves....and some of'em were inspired by wu shu and capoeira
just like in capoeira the first african slaves didn't invented the 540 kick or new shit like that...it evolved...everything has a begining...and almost everything evolves...gets better...it's the same way with bboyin too...!!!

ONE MORE TIME...BBOYIN DIDN'T STARTED FROM CAPOEIRA...THEY GOT SIMILAR...I REPET SIMILAR MOVES...BUT THAT'S ALL THERE IS

u can start bboyin without learning capoeira...i mean...in both these art forms u start with the basics...footwrok...handstands...stuff like that...so what's the point in learning capoeira so u can hlod a heandstand or a freeze...when u can start straight away with bboyin...and do the same thing...get it..??

listen.......u like u got me wrong.......where the hell did i say u need to learn capoeira to do bboyin......and capoeira had those....."SIMILAR" MOVES...longggggggggggggggg b4 breakin was invented ok.....thats all.....there is nooooooooo doubt that capoeira had "INFLUENCES" upon modern breakin.......simple as dat.....

if u can show me another art form or discipline that has moves or techniques "SIMILAR" to modern breakin.....plllllllzzzzzzz tell me....and that same 540 kick that u talk about was actually in martial arts for a while.....in wushu....anyway i dont know if u cant understand a simple post......

I NEVER SAID U GOTTA KNOW CAPOEIRA TO DO BBOYING.....cause they arent the samething.....but tell me if i brought someone who did capoeira to start bboying for the first time......and lets say a person who was now starting....who would have the greater advantage in learning quicker.....????????......sighz

well from reading your post again i gotta say i agree a bit wit what u r saying......but how powermoves began isnt that still part of the history of bboying......cause look at it this way......lets say acient Greeks were the first persons who really started scientific research....would we forget ppl like Sir Isaac Newton, Thomas Edison and Albert Einstein....i doubt it....

i understand that "the boogaloo" or toprock and shit might have been the first thing that started bboying.....but would u forget the records of how powermoves came into play and at what time......???

bboying came from Rocking.......its that simple, and James brown gave inspiration so those Bboys and rockers for differen't moves to try.....its as simple as that it went from Rocking- then people evolutionised rocking into bboying, but back in the day when lots of stuff was still done on the feet, James brown was a huge influence cuz he had the moves. and lots of the power moves came from martial arts, gymnastics, and what not. I am sure, the Capoeira people who started to bboy, brought over some of their techniques, speciallly since bboying is such a open art, all it requires is some form of footwork, and top rock...you can do it how ever you want to off of that....so it does not require the usual windmills or what not (look at Flexi style benji uses for example)

Bboying is what you make it.

i see that your talking about power moves, i've heard time and time again on this site (hopefully its the right info) that Ken Swift and those guys didnt know what Capoeira was back in the day, and it was mostly the Rock Steady Crew, and the Zulu Nation (or whatever it was called back in the day) were the main two crews that started throwing in the power.....sure some might be come straight from capoeira, or the two are very coincidental. Cuz if a group of people from brazil can think up a certain move, doesnt mean another group of people can't when they haven't seen it.

Bboying is what you make it.
