BBoy Dragon's guide on how to make a "Splitting Image"of yourself -
11-26-2006, 05:04 AM
Alright guys, while making a guide,I try not to use informal words like "omg","rite" and other words similar in case any of you don't understand.I write this guide because I want to introduce stretches that are very helpful for split so that when you guys are doing these stretches, you would feel lesser pain than just doing split itself.I am not saying these stretches is a MUST,but it is just reccomended by me.You can just train the split itself, but to me,I think it would be harder(at least to me). Okay, cut the crap now,get serious NOW!!!*Note that b4 doing all these things, please do warm ups like jacking off, jumping jack, jogging around or on a spot, push up or even TOPROCK/UPROCK(which is the best idea for bboys)!!!Thank you
1.)Hamstring A.K.A Sit and Reach position(known by Singaporeans)-Sit with your legs straight, closed. Now,try to go down as far as you can.If you want to force yourself somemore, have someone crush on your back.If there is nobody or you want to do it yourself, you might want to try grabbing your toes to help you get down further.
Click here for the photo of me doing Hamstring
Target guideline:
1st-Try to aim to touch your toes with your finger.(Sounds easy enough?)
2nd-If there is no problem with 1st target, try to touch your toes with your WRIST
3rd-If there is no problem with 2nd target, try to touch your LEGS with your WHOLE UPPER BODY!!!(Like what I did in the photo)
Variations-1.)Stand on your feet and bend your upper body down to your legs like the normal hamstring or just touch the floor with the whole palm or just fingers. This is what Karate students do for warm up. 2.)My own variation-Lie on your back, and this time, instead of bringing your upper body towards your feet like normal hamstring, bring your legs to you.I find this variation very easy to do,a lot easier than the normal hamstring(HIGHLY RECCOMENDED!!!)
2.)Butterfly Stretch-Sit with your knees pointing to your sides, feet together. Now,aim to get down with your forehead/chin/nose touch the floor. If you don’t want your legs to touch your chin(that is,if you are afraid you will dirty your chin,or you feel disgusting after “eating” your feet),put your hands and wrapped your feet,so that your chin will not touch your feet.

3.)Side straddle-Spread out both of your legs widely(the wider your legs are,the easier),now, aim to bend your whole upper body(do not twist your hips,I only mean BEND!!!)to your one of your leg.
Click here for the photo of me doing left side straddle
Click here for the photo of me doing right side straddle
4.)Kicking up to your head height-It is like a kung-fu kick, put your kicking leg slightly behind your standing leg,and KICK HARD!!!(Note:Kicking too hard might result in kicking to your own face, like me .If you do not want to be injured in the face, put 1 or both of your hands to protect your face.)
Click here for the photo of me Kicking up to my head height
5.)Forward Straddle-Rolling On Floor Laughing*This one is the last and hardest stretch of all!!! Try it and you will know it .Spread out both of your legs widely like Side Straddle, but this time, your body will lean forward.Aim to let your forehead/nose to touch the floor. If you could do that, try to let your whole upper body touch the floor.Hm…seems difficult, huh?
Click here for the photo of me doing Forward Straddle(I did it when I was sleeping lolz)
If you want/think you can split now, read below:
6.)Front Split-Put one of your leg in front and another one behind, and now,use your front leg’s heel to push off the ground and open your legs widely. If you cannot reach the ground, reach down to the maximum or a bit above, and hang on there for 10 seconds.
Click here for the picture of me doing Right Leg Front Split(I did it during my birthday)
7.)Side Split-This is the harder than front split, cause it stretch your groin even more!!!2 ways to start it,either you just push off your legs straight away like Front Split,or you can try doing transition from Front Split to Side Split by bending your hips(transition sounds easy, huh?Try it and you wont feel so easy )
Click here for the photo of me doing Side Split(I did it on my birthday, too!!!)
Conclusion-I am not stating the time cause I think it is supposed to be decided by you,but I recommend at least 10 seconds for each one.If you are learning these just for fun,or showing off etc. ,do not stress yourself out too much. But rather,if you are a determined learner or you learn it because you are in gymnastic and you still cant do it etc.(like me in the past ) ,you could learn from me,just persevere, even when your are being at your limit or even being PUSHED(by someone)THROUGH your LIMIT!.But no matter what,it is the best to relax your leg when you start doing this,or else you will end up more pain(it doesn’t really make a difference when you are extremely flexible). If you cannot reach the ground in any exercise, nevermind,it is just normal.Give yourself enough rest too.If your heels are pain when crushing to the ground in splits, put something soft like pillow under it.And please note for people who pushes people to do these exercises, unless they want it,or they are really flexible, DO NOT PUSH OFF SUDDENLY AND HARDLY,cause IT WILL RESULT IN INJURY!
Disclaimer:I am not responsible for any injury caused. You should already be careful when doing these stuffs.
*Note that I made the guide colourful is not I am childish or playful,it is because that some people complained it is dull and some people cannot even read.
Feel free to add my email adress( dragon29125@hotmail.com ),for whatever reasons, you can be friends with me too You can also ask any question here or through conversation/email.
Affiliations:Once you can do split, doing L kick might be easier, click Here to view sum1datbboys's guide
Ok,now we all have come into the end of this guide, wish you luck for people who are trying them and splits, good bye!!!

Nice guide man. You're really flexible! Oh yeah, you forgot to mention to warm up before you stretch. Never stretch cold muscles! You can injure yourself.
My pike guide
My L kick guide
Breakin' was something that society didn't know about, it was something too new for them to even understand, and because of their ignorance to it and lack of knowledge about it, they got scared, and the first thing they do when they get scared about something is to try and stop it...

Oh quick question: When you do front splits how should the foot of your back leg be?
How should the toes be pointing?

Howell:Cuz i was born with my flexiblity(of legs)tho i have still some back flexiblity. But the flexiblity i wanted most is wrist to do planche like Vice President
Shouldn't it be stickied, guys?I really want it to be stickied so that everybody can refer to it and be more flexible as me!
