Question 5 Sets=1 Set ? - 06-03-2004, 09:07 AM

Hey i do every night 1 sets of 40 push ups
and 1 set of 60 crunch .. and more...
i just want to know if i do 4 sets of 10 pushups.. will it give same results as 1 set of 40 pushups?
same for the crunches.. 4 sets of 10 = 1 set of 60?

Mizoo, u gotta work on ur math
4 sets of 10 crutches is not 60, its 40..

just kiddin

But seriously, it wont give nearly the same result...

U shud know that 2 gain muscle mass u gotta do very few sets but many times in those sets...

when i was building myself
i did like 40 pushups 1 night, 50 the next, 60, 65, 70, 80
whatever, just keep going up...
and if ur still building ur muscles try 2 stick to 1 set of each type of exercise. The more u rest the less u get done right?? this worx trust me...

no...don't stick to one set...your not "building yourself up" doing pushups anyway...put a weight on your chest and do 4 sets of 10 crunches...works really well...doesn't have to be a weight just somethin heavy....

and for push ups you can always get close to the ground and hold it for 5 or 10 seconds and then go back up...but basically do everything in sets of 6 to 10...maybe 12 or 14 cuz pushups and crunches are simple excersizes...

Vin Diesel and the Internet - relation? I THINK SO

Vin Diesel invented the internet while trying to steal cable TV.

Contrary to popular belief, it was in fact Vin Diesel who invented the internet. Al Gore stole the designs when Vin fell asleep at his keyboard.

bboyArfen,
y do u think 1 set isnt good?
I think u shud try it urself and c which way helps more
by doing 1 set the difference in strength will be noticable daily, wheras if u do many ul notice ur strength will stop rising at some point.

MiZoo asked whether 4 sets of 10 will give the same result as 1 set of 40..
and i said that it will not.
By doing many sets ur muscles rest more, and when they GAIN STRENGH when they rest less..

U can read this in any health magazine 4 men where exercises r given..

actually when i started working out i didnt kno about this and my strength was rising very slowly in spite of an incredible amount of exercise...
Then when i started doing less sets but more exercise in each set, i was just shocked at how quickly my stregth rose..

sry man...but with pushups your not getting much stronger at all...alot of it just ends up being endurance because its a light weight...you want to gain strength fast push it on the bench press and gain 10 pounds every 3 or 4 workouts...thats gaining strength fast...

5 or 1? - 06-17-2004, 12:39 AM

id says do 3. i have worked out with personal trainers since i was in 8th grade and the reason you dont want to do just one set is because sure you can get stronger from pushing yourself hard but then your done. your muscles still got more in them so suck it all out of them. DONT do 5 because your just flooding your muscles with blood lol. sure you'll look ripped for the girls and crap but i bet you a person doing 3 with more reps per set will beat you in strength. if your going for look by all means do a light weight many set excersice but if you want that extra strength for the freeze then do the 3 sets of 20 and not the 5 sets of 10. your not even getting a workout with 10 anyways. just my input, do with it what you think

from the depths of nowhere comes nothing.... you gotta start with the beginning to get to the end

Bench Press - 07-18-2004, 09:45 AM

A bench press is where you lay back on a weights bench and push the bar up so your arms are straight.

Sorry that wasn't a brilliant explaination but its kinda hard to explain, you'd know if youi saw it though.

Erm, this might sound stupid but whats a crunch? i dont know if its cos im from England or what. i think it might be what we call sit ups?

depense on your target - 07-23-2004, 07:23 PM

what is your gole?

if you want endurance then do 5 sets of 10 cuase you will use most of your muscles tissue,
and if you do 40 reps then you will get more irrupting power from the muscles, however you will wear out your muscles less , to let you more think about it, say how fast do you the the reps?

if i were you , i would do negative slope push ups, that means legs are higher then palms. the higher you go , the harder it gets (its like putting more weight on your hand) .

if you can do them while you are on a hand stand , its even better , tho i was said it not that much good , to much pressher on your wrists and to much blood goes to the brain infecting blood perisher . i do them with my legs against the wall , and as much as i can on my palms.
