Losing weight and gaining flexibility - 03-02-2004, 01:23 AM

I've been looking around these boards for a while, and I notice that there aren't very many people who are like.. overweight. Well, I'm one, and by overweight I mean like I have a gut and flab, but I'm not like husky. Over the years I've been into breakdancing, not doing much since i didn't know too many and recently I've tried to pick it back up. My stamina is crappy and I get out of breath just from doing six-steps and my flexibility is crap and I can't pull off apple-jax.
I've been doing crunches (not strong enough to do sit-ups), push ups, and practicing walking on my hands (handstands) for upper body-strength. Any suggestions for lower strength and flexibility?

Seriously, wrestling will get you in shape the fastest. But, you could try to run everyday and get loosened up before and after. Then, jump up and down as high as you can. Do some crunches. Then push ups and I don't think you need to walk on your hands. Then go and sit with your back against the wall like you are taking a crap will your knees perpendicular to the wall so you look like a chair. Then hold that position for 30 sec. or a minute or two somewhere around there and if you do this everyday you will lose weight and get in better shape granted you also have to eat right. I hope this helps you.

join martial arts!!! i've been into martial arts for about 8 months by now and i could already see the difference in my physical endurance. martial arts push you to your limits as a person... thus giving you the ability to be more confident on yourself... this also helps in bboying. Remember... bboying isn't all about dancing and listening to music.. there are always things on the side if you look at it thoroughly. This will help you to become the best you can be. hope this helped.

u can if u believe u can!

yo, you can actually turn skin into muscle you know..just work out and stuff...or if you have that idea in your head that weight lifting prevents growth..then just do a lot of situps and push-ups

I would join, but I don't know which I should pick up. What particular martial arts are you doing? Karate, kung fu, tae kwon do? I only list these because it seems that there's more movement and exercise in them rather than like Aikido or jujitsu.

join taekwondo... most of my friends have been in taekwondo and they look pretty fit. also, taekwon do will help you in flexibility and power. plus, it give you coordination because of type of training they do.
