strong but so weak! Help me please! - 01-09-2004, 06:29 PM

Hi, i am new to breakdancing. So i bougth these "how to breakdance tapes" and realized that i am MUCH MUCH weaker than i though. I am a Tennisplayer and besides practice i work out about 1 1/2 hours every day in the gym, even week ends. I am quiet strong for my age and my body is very well built. Now not trying to make myself shine but i am describing a little what i am....now my problem is i cant do ANY of the moves, cause my arms legs joints etc hurt a lot when i do this stuff. I dont know why but i can barely do sixsteps cause my wrists and elbows just give in and hurt like ass after 4 rotations. Then i have to stop for about 4 days so i can start a little again. Thats pathetic and i am so dissappointed in myself. I can do about 27 pull ups on a bar, 69 push ups ( in one minute and 10 secs) , 140 sit ups without any major pain. But this breakdancing is killing me. I already do wrist strenghening and other excersis wich i read here in the formus for my normal every day tennis work out, but i just dont seem to gain more strengh to do the breaking.....Did any of you expirience similar problems? thanks to ya'll for reading this

Yall have a great day!

How old ar u to do all that crazy shit u do? Hahaha Dam son u ar a machine. O yea. Dont Workout everyday. Bad for u. U need to gib your muscles time to grow. So maybe everyother day. I dunno. U dun hab to listen to me Im kinda new at this too but Try dis. Download like any random crew's video clips. And one of the clips u download will motivate u maybe....give u determination or inspiration to be like taht bboy one day hahahaha I kno it sounds kinda gay but It worked for me. Then watch da clips over and over again and try to copy their moves and freezes and stuff like that. Practice EVERYDAY and it help a TON if u ar flexible so try to stretch everyday too. O another thing haha Once u get "good" not great but good at bboying. Maybe start showing your skillz off to groups of people.. like dance at a party or sumthin. People will say like How do u that and will start cheering for u Your self esteem will rise and ull want to break even more. Hope this helps buddy. Good Luck

yes..you must stretch...because if you work out everyday..then you're not gonna be flexible enough to do moves....don' t work out as much..not good for you..flexible wise

The amount of push ups you can do has no impact... it's all about form... if you can do a full proper push up 69 times then we can talk... and that would take about hmm... at least 3 seconds a push up.
Another thing is sit ups are bad for your back, switch to crunches.
Yea def rest between work out days.
Or you can do weight training one day - arobic the next - etc.

He is talking about his joints being weak, not his muscles. Maybe the sore wrists and elbows are from tennis. I dunno what to tell you. The only time my joints have been sore was when I was learning turtles. I guess you can try loosening them up before you break. Just bend and extend them, or rotate them a bunch before you break.

Dude its buecase you do it worng - 04-08-2004, 06:38 PM

try to lean over all your palm and not just your werst , when you will need yo use your wrest solo, you will know.
also do staff to make your wrist stronger so it will prevent injery , since you do tennis , i geuss your muscle mass over your wrist is lower but has more endurance, to break you got to have both , but more strength(to my opinion).

the reason you cant do shit is cuase breakin works on difrrent muscle then normal things you do , running will not make you stronger , however increase your endurance.
push up will give you chest and triseps strenth but not what you you need to work on your upper chest, try to put your feet on your bed and do push ups while your on the floor(or better do push up while your legs are on the wall ,above your head)

if you are lookin' for muscle to work on , try the trieseps(most important) back , and for the wrist try sopination and pronation(if that is how its written)

if you want to jump then you'll need strong legs ... but thats another story.

and try to use your skeleton to support yourself more then your muscle .

oww and if you are talking about pain , try changing your d n a , talk to your mother to simply replace your father, that should do the work

enjoy

man if you are hurting to do moves as basic as the 6 step there is something very wrong. you have obviously been training incorrectly as evidenced by all this pain and stiffness you are feeling. my advice is stop gym at least until the pain goes. then if you wish to go back train intelligently do not push your body hard, the theory that lifting heavy weight makes you stronger is not entirely true. thats why i always tell people to train with other methods than weights. it could also be that you strained yourself from tennis. anyway it is hard to think of a solution based on the information you gave only but id say you should start listening to your body and treating it better.
o and always stretch and warmup its very important

?
Look up any article in regards to sit-ups vs. crunches. Crunches are much safer and way more effective.

http://www.seekwellness.com/fitness/fab_abs.htm
'A recent study sponsored by the American Council on Exercise (ACE), which took place at the San Diego Sate University Biomechanics Lab has identified the most effective exercises. The best ab routines involved two old standbys that required no equipment, the bicycle maneuver and crunch. My personal experience with these two simple, yet effective movements, coupled with the fact that they require no equipment, make them my abdominal workout of choice. '

http://www.healthatoz.com/healthatoz...t05222001.html
'"The problem with the sit-up is that it is ineffective," Francis says. Typically, he says, people do sit-ups by lying with their back on the floor, with their legs straight or knees bent. Then, they sit all the way up, relying on their hips and less on their abdominals. Not only is a sit-up ineffective but it can strain the back, Francis adds.'

http://www.exercare.com/exerinfo/abs2.htm
'If you dream of tightening your tummy, but dread doing endless sets of sit-ups, then California researchers have good news for you. The classic sit-up, they say, is not the best answer for stronger, flatter abdominal muscles.'

Peep those article and the most effective ab exercises

In response to Style Project, if after all these things your joints etc. are still hurting/weak, try taking vitamins and minerals. Also eat heaps of fruit and vegetables. These have worked for me.

a lot of the times your joints hurt or ou get splits (such as the forearms and the legs) is because your muscles are not strong enough to take the weight burden or because you did not properly warm up and stretch.
