Stretching - 12-16-2003, 11:00 PM

Anyone know of any stretches -or- sites that have good stretching techniques for breakin'?

The main problem I have while BBoying is I'm not very flexible. I do stretch before I break, but overall I'm not flexible as I would like to be. I can barely touch my toes without it starting to hurt.

I think that this may effect my ability to do some moves.

thats the whole point, you have to stretch until it hurts more and more...the more it hurts, the more flexible you are getting...every ones a while you'll see that it starts to hurt when you reach past the point it hurt before...

just keep consistant and dont stop stretching, make up a stretching "routine" that you'll always do and never skip it or it wont work, do it like twice a day, around the morning and before dancing...dont stretch after dancing too much...it dont work too well...

Well u should just keep bboying. And as erock_bis_NY said, u can make up a stretching routine. Personally wen I began breaking i couldnt even touch my toes wen I tried to stretch. Now I can get my wrist past my toes. I never used a stretching routine either. Just keep bboyin and flexibility will come in time.

lol , word anubis . it's so daunting .
i admit i almost always skip streching for flexability and promise myself i will do it in another day , haha

don't stretch so much BEFORE dancing , just warm up before dancing
stretch out AFTER dancing - much better tack
then you're nice and crispy for the dancing part but afterwards you make sure that your muscles don't seize up

the best stretching exercises and poses are found in yoga books - go to the library, sign out one with lots of pictures and copy them . Vishnu Devananda made a nice one that most everybody has now .
Stretching makes for super gumby freezes anyhow -i like being flexible , it means i have extra party tricks even if i dont use it so much when i break
