Exclamation Swimming vs. Ellipticals/Treadmill/Weights - 11-01-2009, 02:20 PM

Ssup

I have an option..either to get a membership at the gym or for swimming.
I just wanted to know your opinions on what you think is better for losing fat...more specifically calories(correct me if I'm wrong).
So once again...the Gym or Swimming?

I need you guys to help me out in this decision...I don't know which is better.
I would be going to the facility everyday or at least 3 times a week.

Peace.

Either will work, but if you want fat loss from going to the gym you'll have to be doing both weightlifting and a cardio component. If your concern is less on muscle building and more geared towards fat loss, then go for swimming. Along with being a total-body exercise, it's good cardio and keeps your joints happy.

Go for the Gym.

Screw Swimming, Unless its your private pool, they will add some gay chemical that pisses you off and makes your hair all sticky.

Gym ftw.

Swimming is good cardio; it also helps your lungs because of the rhythmic breathing you're doing (assuming you know how to swim correctly, most people don't). Like said above, it also doesn't put any unwanted pressure on your joints.

Depends wat ur aiming for. If ur aiming to become stronger and b better at blow ups and freezes go to the gym. (I know this from personal experience) If your going for stamina and endurance swimming. I personally thing swimming is better than running for stamina and endurance cause it works ur whole body, but it's up to u. I can do lots of blow ups and freezes but my stamina isn't so good. I recently did a 5 round exhibition and couldn't bust out my best shit 4th and 5th round cause I didn't have the energy. So choose wisely

Swimming! Swimming is a great cardio activity that will burn off any excess fat. I both swim and workout in a gym, and I've found that swimming burns a lot more calories than the gym. Swimming will also build lean muscle, especially on the back, and will keep your muscles flexible, whereas going to the gym will cause your muscles to tighten.

Swimming, only if you're dedicated enough to push yourself. Swimming is in fact helpful in many ways. Building muscles, stamina, endurance, etc.
I've been swimming for 3 years in competitions now. I have to say that it's very tiring, but the results are very satisfying.

Lifting, threadmills, etc. IMO, it's provides a little less than swimming. In the short run, lifting, threadmilling, etc. is better. In the long run, swimming is better.

Swimming will cause your excess fat to deteriorate slowly, and allows your muscles to build lean, but still slowly. So as you lose fat, you gain muscles. Honestly, over time, you won't look that different unless you started skinny. A little fat will honestly take a lot more time to get rid of through swimming than weight lifting.

Swimming is great conditioning. It works on every muscle in your body and builds a lot of stamina/endurance. Now that I think about it I should start again...
