Need help on my 1990s (Video included) - 09-22-2007, 11:36 PM

Well, i just filmed some of my 1990s, its done on carpet, but i can only get up to one spin, and maybe a little more. these arent my best 1990s, about average for me.

Any help/advice/suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I just put it on youtube, so I dont know if the link will work right away:

:EDIT: my third post has a better video

right now, you are basically going straight into handstands that turn.
the way you start off tells me you don't know much about the mechanics of 90s so study videos of decent 90s (don't look at the pro videos, i don't think they help amateurs because they're so fast)

hey thanks for your input, but can you elaborate on what you mean by "handstands that turn" as opposed to a regular 1990? Is there something wrong with my setup?

:EDIT: I'll re-record it so it doesnt look so sloppy, i realized you cant even see a setup in my video.

you try and spin right away with your first hand that goes down... I dont do that, i only turn a lil and thats from setting my legs up, which yours arent setting up right at all, then I switch hands then I spin

or maybe thats just meh

Hm I see what you mean, and that small spin on my initial hand is from the momentum of going into the setup i think.

Heres a better video, I slowed down the move itself and performed it a bit better, IMO.

Except for the fact that I crashed into my subwoofer, hahahah.

a little bit better but not much

when you start, you're initial swing needs to sweep in a big circle as you go into the handstand; for this purpose, most people have their legs spread wide at the start.

you don't have your legs spread wide, you're not swinging in a circle as you go up, and instead your swing is virtually vertical. there's no way to get momentum like this.

like i said, watch some videos and study the motions thoroughly. the 90 is a delicate and complex move that isn't learned through quantity effort.

geez, u right about the starting your legs wider, I can already feel alot more momentum being carried through. I had looked at some tuts and they didn't really stress going up into a circle as opposed to going up vertically, so i had been practicing them wrong.

thanks!

:EDIT: one more thing, do you have any specific videos in mind? I can't really find a good one for me to learn from.

It looks like your going a little too slow, try it faster.

And yeah, start with your legs wider.

Yeah i've been practicing it on carpet so maybe that also adds on to my lack of momentum...as im not going fast enough to really spin around alot. But how do you develop good form working them fast when you are beginning to learn them?
