Handstand Guide - 09-18-2007, 02:49 PM

***first- this is for when u get comfortable doing handstands on the wall.
the only thing we r doing here is taking away the wall but still adding extra support to do handstands

1. find something thats about the top of your head level when doing handstands. for the rest of the guide we'll assume it's YOUR MOMMA's couch.

2. all u do is go into a handstand with you head on the couch and your hands on the ground. the only thing that should be supporting your body in the air is your hands and head

3. THAT'S IT!!! keep practicing!!!

*** i know this tutorial sounds dumb but think of the things u could practice.
examples. . .

u could try pressing up off your head
u could try one hand
practice your form when u do 90's, 2000's, airtracks, nikes, etc.

it's really good for swinging (kicking) your legs for familiarization in the above examples and more that i can't think of right now.

u also could use something lower than head level and practice pressing up etc.
it's up to u.

it's helping me get back to familiarizing myself with these moves. i'm 35 (i know that's old man status to u youngins but i'm proud and able to say that i've loved and been bboying over half my life). the sad thing is that i haven't been consistent. and i'm not at the level i should be.

one!!!

This isn't a good way, since pulling of regular handstands is easier then pulling one of from headstand.

I KNOW YOU GOT SOUL.

Eh. Well, since you 35 and I am way younger than you I am going to make this really simple. =)

I dont really see a focus. This guide would not be considered a "Handstand" guide. It's more like how to practise all around hand balancing techniques. Not just handstand alone. I mean, you have all this stuff about 1990,2000 and kikes and airtracks... Which are just windmills that you push into the air and spin...

So, the guide has potential but it needs more of a focus and a base line to follow.

well the basis for it is it's supposed to be used in conjunction with doing handstands on the wall to help build arm strength and orientation. but unlike using the wall it frees up both legs. by doing this you use more of your core muscles i.e. lower back and abs. it also helps a noob or a rusty vet get a basic orientation in swinging your legs for 90's and etc. it could build strength for one handers because you can lean to the side that you are going to do them on.

but i appreciate the advice
i think every little bit helps and i was just tryin to help
