Cool 2-and-1 handed handstand guides for beginners - 08-03-2006, 05:11 PM

if this does not meet ur standards remind that this is my first post.

ok i know ppl say that handstand guides are just stupid, bbut i think that since handstands are the basics of bboying all u newbz need 2 know about them.

HANDSTANDS

{1}k to start the handstand look for a spot on the ground. not to far or not 2 close.

{2} now what u need to do is throw ur hands down on the spot, and at the same time kick ur legs up in the air. not to hard that u fall on ur back and not 2 less that u just look stupid.

NOTE: u wont get it straight away but keep on practicing, the more u do it the longer u can hold it.

TIP: k something that can help u get the feel of it is to do step 1 and 2 next to a wal and let ur knee's bend so they touch the wall.

1 HANDED HANDSTANDS

{PREQUISITE}: just need to know which hand is ur power hand (hand with most balance)

{1} k for 1 handed handstands what u do is do the same as step {1} and step {2} in the part for regular handstands.

{2} now ur in ur handstand (ppl say that u should lift ur weak hand slowly) but i say that u should lift it fast. when u lift ur weak hand make it parrellel to the ground (it helps 4 balance).

k now just practice and then evntuall u will be able to go staight to 1 handed handstands.

k and this is for the lack of smileyes in the post :hurt

yo heres a link 2 the best handstand (one and two-handed) guides in the world; they were written in the 50's but they're the most in-depth HS guides i've found on the web. heres the link

The York Handbalancing Course

ps
i know its written like sumthin ur grandparents would write, but u get used 2 the writing style pretty quickly, and the guide is so useful its worth it
They don't really mention how to escape if you fall toward ur back, so i'll describe it here.
One way is to tuck your chin into your chest and roll onto your UPPER back (and get up with a kip up or sumthin so you look at least a little more skilled)
Another way, the way I prefer, is to lift up one hand and twist 90 degrees so you land on your feet. Don't focus too much on specifics; instinct should guide you so you can step down safely.
Hope this helps! any questions, post em in this thread or PM me

im sorry but it is a really bad guide. Just a stupid thing to explain everyone has their own way. I always get in a handstand the 90s way and the way you get into a one handed handstand makes me believe u cant really do it yourself. Take the your weak arm away fast from 2 handed handstand is just silly sorry but true.
EDIT: and like b-boy bao said, your instinct are the most important thing in handstands.

It takes an athlete to breakdance, but an artist to be a bboy.
