bgirl 90's?? - 08-03-2006, 04:12 AM

hi I'm a bgirl trying to do the 90. I've been practising it for weeks now and I've made absolutely no progress. I get the whipping of legs and where I'm supposed to spin on my hand... but no matter how ahrd I whip/snap my legs... My upper body doesn't turn at all... or my hand doesn't spin but the rest of my body just rotates and flops to the floor. It's sooo embarrassing when my friends try and teach me.. so they've given up.... What am I supposed to do to get my hand to spin? Even with a cloth or something I just don't get it... and it ends up pulling on my shoulder which hurts.

can you post a video? it would help alot.
it takes time to learn to lift up your fingers and spin on the bone of your hand. this is what i do, i do the start off slow and easy and since i go CCW, i put my right hand where my left foot was. i would try not to swing my legs like an airflare when learning at first, i would swing my leg out a bit, but more up. after swinging that left leg up, i have to lean my left leg to the back to center the balance as my right leg comes up. at the same my right leg comes up, i put my spinning hand down, with the fingers pointed towards the start off hand (it helps me to learn to lift up my fingers and bend my arm a lil bit so i can spin on the bone). the momentum from the start off will help me spin, but it helps more to push off the ground with the start off hand to help start spinning. tucking my head in during 90s help me gain balance since it creates a straight back. one thing though, try to reduce surface area of your body, make a tight compact body so you can spin easier.

i hope it helps,
peace

keep your arm perfectly straight and as close as possible to the side of your head, that helped me twist a bit more

Are you applying your weight on that small bone on your palm? Check the guides that show some of the pictures. I think your trying to spin on your entire palm which isn't gonna happen. You have to be spinning on a certain part (The bottom left part of your hand if you are a righty) in order to rotate.
