This is an old "handbalancing" guide. Please don't use it as your bible, as the alignments are not that great. Hollow backs were fashionable back then, but they no longer are. That being said, take a look at this issue, near the end (p13). There is a piece on one hand balance that makes a lot of sense. The only thing wrong with it is the bending of the back, keep your whole body straight all the time. The legs together thing is optional, but does give you a better feel for them. Looks harder too.
The lazy man's guide (with some extra tips):
- Lock the arm you'll balance on, unless you're very strong.
- Keep the balance on your pinky or a bit to the left of it, never let it drop to the wrist.
- Go slowly
- Keep your body tight
- When lifting your 2nd hand don't pull it from the floor, lift it very very gently.
- Push the ground, keeping your shoulder "up" near your ear.
- Try putting a phonebook under your non-supporting hand, it helps in getting used to the feel of the move.
This guide and these tips is what finally got me balance, and I hope it does so for you. Remember it takes a LOT of practice and if you fall over immediatley you may just not be ready for it yet.
