11-01-2005, 02:12 PM
Alright,
I can do a handstand, but im always moving around with my hands i cant stay still. I want to perfect a solid handstand before i attempt any handstand moves.
Anyone got any advice?
My back does seem to be arched when im upwards infact ill take a video... sec .

I think i use my legs to balence, rather than my hands (you might be able to tell from the video!
Any advice appreciated

all u can do is practice until you are comfortable enough in that position to not move around

straight ur arms, use fingers for balance and the rest will work with practice ^^

the way i learned it, i just bend my elbows a little bit and held myself up with strength. this puts more focus on my arms and less dependency on my legs.

Well you don't really need to be able to hold handstands still for most of the handstand moves (solars, scissors, 90's, etc.). It helps, but it isn't required.

You've got good form, just keep practicing and bend your arms abit, like VP said.

^ Your abs do too actually. Anyways, you can always remember to use your hips as well. Hips and arms are all i used when i first learned.

Id say standing on ur hands is like learning how to walk when u were a baby. Keep doing wut ur doing until ur arms get stronger and more balanced.

Hey man~ one way i learnt to get strength is do pushups on the wall !
Like u do a hand stand on the wall hav ur legs on the wall and start doing pushups with ur arms
You get some balance... but yeh thats wat i do.. and i'm kinda at the stage you're at too haha try it out.. it gives u strength on the arms and back muscles too~ good luck

Yeah guys cheers for the advice but im still trying, it amazes me how some people can just put their hands on the ground and slowly lift their legs up like their balence on their hands is perfect, i can only get into a handstand by swinging my legs up but im trying my best to strengthen my muscles and practice to get it solid, its hard tho!

PROGRESS!
----> I thought id post my progress, ive noticed that if your losing balence and you dip your head slightly by bending your arms(see vid) you can regain it, i think this is where i was going wrong before because I was locking my elbows. I can now hold the handstand for a few seconds still, im yet to be able to keep it there for nice and long though. Then i suppose ill work on solar eclipse once i get the handstand down well. see vid!
