Any idea how to correct this 'handstand'? - 10-29-2005, 06:58 AM

Hallo, ive been reading ur guides for some time, and ive finally decided to pull my finger out of my ___ and actually join,and i think ill introduce myself by begging for help/advice on handstands.

I currently have this wonky handstand which i can only hold for 8 sec max, it kinda looks like a banana, because my back is mega arched. How can i get a straight handstand, i know the obvious of straightening my back, but how? Am i starting them off wrong?. I start with hands by side btw. (oh and if i try straightening my legs i would fall over, so im guessing its my arched back thats the problem)

Ive attempted to post a pic of it, hopefully it comes up, if it doesnt ill try posting it in gallery.

Ok well, straighten your back, as you well know you gotta do. Try to lean forward a little bit more, and keep your legs up straight. that'll help you out. When i stand, i open my legs into a big V or L but that's just cuz it helps me balance and i'm used to it like that. Just try to straighten out as much as possible. If you want to stay standin longer, try to learn to balance out. Grab the floor with your fingers, it helps.

Thx rash, but when should you straighen out? Like while im all banana shaped or is there a technique or area where u gotta tense to get up there straight backed in the first place? And what part has to lean forward?

Im kinda more obsessed with the technique cos i already feel ive got the balance, if i get up there straight by fluke i can hold it for as much as i want.

lol i already sound like an annoying noob

u fix ur back, make it strighter, once ur up. the melbourne gravity dis that 2 me aswell an wen i went up it always turned out like a bananana. straighten out once ur there. legs open like a v looks bad but gives better balance, if u can manage to keep ur legs together they will look better

i had tt same problem as well...wat u need to do is just tense up ur stomach muscle. tt automatically straighten ur bak. takes practice to get used to it. u think melbourne got messd up gravity. try perth. lol. its crap + boring ahahahahahaha..
