good old fear (1990 related issue) - 10-20-2005, 02:58 PM

alright, im havin some troubles with 90's (whats new)

alright, when im doin my 90's, i tend to whip myself up into the 90's really fast so i get alot of speed but when i start spinning and get about 1 rotation, i just seem to have some fear of going around again, so i pretty much just quit at one...

is there any way to get past this fear?

If you have a fear of spinning upside down, do it on grass. Just keep spinning, if it helps, close your eyes. although your 90's will look bad and you prolly won't know it. So there ya go. Just do it. And it doesn't hurt if you fall. just like if you fall from a handstand.

That's annoying when it happens. It's a common problem for most, but you can get past it by really going for the 2nd one. Tuck your head into the shoulder of the hand that is on the ground and try to make your body as stiff as a stick as possible. Then let all the momentum take you from there. I do it on grass sometimes, but most of the time it's just on cardboard+linoleum because that stuff is soft. Haha

practice makes perfect? no no no.... PERFECT practice makes perfect

practice it correctly

I do it on grass cuz I don't want to spend money on lin and i can't find any of the cardboard boxes i had... Plus, doing 90's on grass is way harder so it makes me better :P

But yeah, i try to keep my head as close to my shoulder as possible, although i usually don't...

i do that sometimes too...just keep your legs in the air no matter what, you can always catch yourself with your hands.

Man I know the feeling. I can't do 90's yet, but I got that fear with regular handstands when practicing them. It's like I was afraid to balance it for longer than like 1 second, even if I felt that my back and legs were balanced already.

All I can say is that you can get over the fear by making a mistake while doing it. Like you fall over (not necessarily intentionally) after going for your second rotation, and realize that it doesn't really hurt. If you have even a little presence of mind, which you most likely do, you won't land on your head anyway (mostly you might fall on your legs or back), so you won't hurt yourself much. After your first fall, you'll probably get more guts to try it again.

Hope that helps at all.

if you're going to do one handed, then you might want somethig to hold on to like a side rail. If you're doing a two handed, then you want to do it against the wall.
