required strength - 08-24-2005, 01:09 AM

rather new the the bboy thing so this may seem like the most idiotic question alive, but roughly how much arm strength do you need, i mean on a 1990 its one handed. does it really require as much as it looks. a lot of the guides say no but coming from someone rather strong that wouldnt mean much.

clifs:
how much would be a suitable bench max for doing handstand moves?

stuff where you keep your arm straight (IE 90s) takes little to no strength, unless you are:

1) not athletic AND prepubescent (10-12), in which case your muscles will not be very developed and you might have a little trouble CONTROLLING yourself when on your hands (though you can very well still be on your hands)

2) malnourished and thus have no muscles, in which case you should eat first before practicing more

A normal, healthy person should naturally have enough arm strength to be able to control himself on an extended arm or two without it snapping

stuff that requires extension (ie: rollback pike) takes a bit more conditioning, but is mostly technique.

The biggest problem is that bboying makes you use muscles in a way you normally wouldn't, so you need to "condition" them to get used to it. Not a strength thing.

ok thats cool! i was just wondering because it is one of my personal favorite movies (when i see people spin at massive speed). that and this move where the guy was spinning on the palm of his hand (well that ball bone on the bottom of his palm), holding his wrist/forearm with his other hand, and his legs in a flag like position. what exactly is that (only seen 1 person ever do it, Rivers Crew (forgot his name -__-"))
