Aight, a few q's....
Do you mean go on just your wrists, and bend your fingers onto the ground? Cuz that actually requires less strength, but if done right, looks better. So learn 'em like that....not to mention, 1990's and such are done on the lowest possible surface area of your hand anyway....so that's a good start.
Also....do you bend your knees, or your back? If you bend your knees and you're still falling, then you have to go "higher"....meaning more vertical.....if your back's bending, then try 'em against a wall, and keep practicin' proper form to straighten yourself out.
1 more thing....which direction do you fall? (Back the way you went up, or you you keep going and land on your back/feet?)
