VP,is a stable handstand really needed for planche, and by the way,i actually agree with VP,gymnastic handstand is not a REAL HANDSTAND,cuz everything is REAL!Rather,I call it the STANDARD handstand.

My pike guide
My L kick guide Breakin' was something that society didn't know about, it was something too new for them to even understand, and because of their ignorance to it and lack of knowledge about it, they got scared, and the first thing they do when they get scared about something is to try and stop it... |

Yeah, it is good to have a handstand down to do a planche. Because you need to know how to balance with your shoulders to. But, VP might have a different way. I aint hiphop know more because I converted to tricking, even though I am black. I learned my planche by going into it from a handstand position. I could write a guide on planches to if you want. I know how to do it both ways.

is my handstand an arched back (bad technique if i wanted to do gymnastics) one?
I'll try attach the image ![]() if that didnt work i uploaded it to my gallery thingy on this site EDIT: forgot to mention, i tried making my legs not go so far forward but it seemed like it was just impossible to keep my COG over my hands that way... if my HS is wrong, i'm not quite sure how to fix it. |

Thats nice. If you are not feeling any extra straign on your back it is fine. However, you can go straighter, but thats kinda what mine looks like sometimes, maybe a bit straighter. I say you got it pretty good.

sweet as then, it actually changes during the handstand, for example that pic is a video frame and through the video sometimes my legs went further over to keep my balance. That's the only way i know how to stay balanced when i start falling back the way i came from, and i suspect it might be because i made the mistake of learning to walk before learning to stand.
if i fall the other way i just squeeze my fingers into the ground....sore, but it works cheers |

Well. What ever works for you. Hell if your back is arched a lot thats awsome, then we will call that move the Cobra lol. Just like how the ancient chinese people did those ill handstands.

Well, as I said. If you feel extra straign on your back it is best to find another way to do it. Pain is the sign. Good luck.

I think this one deserves a bump.
To add a variation, try putting your hands down and then NOT kick into the handstand but lean into it. Yea that's right, lean into the handstand and lift your legs to the point where they're straight. I have 2 guys in my crew who can do this since a few days ago. They went to take some lessons with this gymnastics dude, dutch champion or something. One of them couldn't do any airtracks before, since he has the gymnastic "lift into it" handstand down, he can do 1 perfect airtrack. to be honest... I think lifting yourself into a handstand is near to impossible... takes alot of strenght in the groin O_O I can't do it yet, but I'm working on it. oowh, and use a wall to try and lift/lean yourself into it. lock your shoulders, put them down away from the wall, then lean towards the wall and put the upper back and the back of your head flat against the wall. Now try lifting your legs up, don't kick, lift them up. oow, and keep your legs wide. lift them up wide, then close them on top. This will be tough on your wrists... so don't force it to much. |

A gymnastic handstand is essential for bboys cuz it helps improve their perfromance and get better balance. Many bboys cant perfect the handstand because they dont know how to control their backs and eventually fall.so the gymnastic handstand is the key for perfect balance

Yeah. Mr.47 is right. But whatever works for you is fine. my handstands are not perfect. But they are comfortable and I can hold them for a long time in the position.
