it's not just going to take "an hour" to start writing good graff.. it's atleast gonna take a day or two for some good block letters.. just slow it down... that spots still gonna be there when you do get better..

i wouldnt even do block letters because even with a roller they look wack. look at your keyboard and do those letters. or at any "normal" writing and learn those. Focus on those for months(for some it takes even a year) until you have them inside and out, THEN maybe try and put them up somewhere, preferably the whole time practicing on some plywood or something that no one will see.
Crunk, I'm not trying to hurt your feelings, but if i do so be it. you shouldnt try teaching something that you arent good at yourself. All that does is make a mess. a day or two for any kind of letters when just starting out means NOTHING.
There is no easy fix people, spend your time, find a living, breathing mentor in your area and learn the hard knocks like all the great ones did before you. There is no shortcut, there are no alternatives. This is not a skill you can pick up by reading books or looking at the internet. This shit is hard, its painful and it takes dedication to the point of obsession. Until you figure that out you will be a toy.

but im no toy, ( not saying you called me one)im juss new to letters, i have learned through my won random doodles and my love for hip hop...i know it isnt something that you learn over night, but im trying to get input on this specific one, i dont want it to be too crazy or anything, so could you tell me whats wrong with this one?
and yes i will practice normal letters but do i really want to put normal letters up reppin me? the only way ill do that is if i draw one of my characters by it.
again not trying to argue or raise a fuss or put a doubt to your experience, i will follow what you said im just raising a point.

there is no consistency in those letters at all. and there are cats that do ONLY characters, there is nothing wrong with that. Its not really in keeping with tradition, but if its paint on walls and trains, then its totally respectable.
"but do i really want to put normal letters up reppin me? "
That quote alone is the toy speaking through you. what is wrong with putting up straight letters? The majority of my pieces are straight letters. And most of the old kings(SEEN and DONDI come to mind, not to mention LEE, SMITH, QUIK...the list goes on) made their fame ONLY off of straight letters. Sure, wildstyles are great to add to your list of talents, but the fact that you think repping yourself with straight letters is derogatory shows that you know NOTHING of the ropes that you think you know. You, my friend, are still a toy. There is tradition and dues to be paid. Just because you throw up a few charcters doesnt make you a writer as your characters (at least what i've seen) arent all that either. Practice practice practice. Don't let your ego kick you in the ass, and learn the LIFESTYLE of a writer. Otherwise you will just be some dude that paints shit, and yes there is a difference.
Part 2. graffiti is not hiphop, hiphop adopted graffiti as part of what it does. To claim you are a writer because you love hiphop and have been breaking for years would be like me saying I am a breaker because i've been writing for years. I can't dance, so i dont call myself a breaker and dont jump in dance circles. Is it any different with graffiti?????? why should it be? In my opinion anyway, that is disrespectful. In some circles, such disrespect can get one beaten. I hope you don't attempt to kick it in such circles because it may just break your heart.

i resign myself from this silliness. you refuse to be called a toy, but a toy is nothing worse than an apprentice. if you see yourself as more than an apprentice then you dont need any help. its your reputation dude, but there is plenty of wisdom from some of the cats in this board that you would benefit greatly from. Shit, i've been doing this shit for 20+ and still learn shit daily. But if the term you are referred to as is that important to you then enjoy being the best in your town.

O_O THanks man i didn't know most of what you just said..
Is it bad that i just man people to recognize me and thats why i've started graffiti? Idk, alot of people i know are different. Like in my art class this guy painted this DANK jimi hendrix piece and i said "That's a hella sweet way to get your name out there" and he didn't quite click with that.
myspace add me
Not being as good as you motivates me even more to get better.
"Let me dance or let me die."
"Put your shirt back on your scaring away all the chicks!"
^^ Lol

everyone paints for different reasons. some start for fame, some start because they like the way it looks. But still the bottom line is the onl way to know is to do it. After awhile the hidden reasons of what this lifestyle is will make themselves apparent. There is no substitute for an experienced mentor. We didnt have that luxury when i was coming up, but cats nowadays in almost every city are surrounded by potential teachers. Its not always as easy as "hey, can you show me how to write". Shit like that is reserved for internet forums and indirect communications that wont harm the rep of the cat telling you what's what. Persistence is the key, and an honest effort. Its not an easy game full of people who will open themselves up to you right away. you have to remember that in many places its a CRIME, so you are potentially trying to wedge your way into a circle of hardened criminals. You wont be accepted just for asking. Anyone worth a shit in the real graffiti world went through the hardknocks to get where they are. But once you get in with someone, if you don't prove yourself to be a fool, you will find a world of knowledge that will benefit you beyond your expectations. Shamefully, with the commercial acceptance of the aesthetic of graffiti style, it is likely that it will be even harder to find a true, gritty, street-bred writer to gather knowledge from as many of us are wary of new cats coming around for the wrong reasons. So you too must be selective in who you choose to follow. If it seems like the dude you know is in it for shit reasons, then he probably is.
