graff or bboying? -
09-23-2007, 12:50 AM
ive noticed something disturbing recently. before, when i hung out with my friend whos a bboy i always wanted to bboy, asphalt, cement, or hardwood. wed find a way to do it. recently its been like "yea we could practice outside...or...we could go get some ups"...EVERYTIME that ive gone out to bboy ive gone to get up instead. ive noticed that graff is interfering with my bboyin.
now im not some loser who needs tips from ppl or anything about what to do in this situation, im just noting a trend in my activities...i just wanted to know if any of you cats have noticed anything like this...instead of rockin a couple mills, i sit down and make nibs or ink or mops...weird shit...

i used to bboy aswell, for like 2 years.
then i discovered graff and was hooked. breakdance slowly disappeared in my weekly things to do...
breakdancing doesnt get you as much as graff does imo... the rush is way bigger, and you don't get those annoying bruises anymore, well you get different bruises hehe.
graff till the end
just here to fuck shit up

well I can't relate anymore because me painting a wall is always going to be legal now.. me rockin' to the beat is always legal anyways.. maybe you want to paint more than dance because you think you have to make a name for yourself in your town.. or seeing your ups on stuff around your town is what you like to see so you make everything that's bare pleasing in your eyes by marking on it.. I personally love to break more than graff right now.. it's because the scene is growing at my college and they're lots of new bboys and bgirls.. graff for me right now is buying a huge board and practicing my method for painting my style of graff.. then going to buy a huge-behind canvas to paint one day for a friend to hang in their house.... therefore my graff is about serving others something that will bless them.. my graff is a gift.. so is my breaking, many people break to impress the crowd, while that happens naturally that's not why I bboy, many graff artist notice that they can impress people better when they mark up their whole block, more so than dancing for 1 hour at a battle so they're more attracted to graff because it makes them feel more respected and important, it's more impressive.. I say screw all that, we're not fit to do things just to impress someone else, because truth is there's always someone better than us, I break because I enjoy the mess out of it, i don't care who's looking or not looking, if the cameras rolling or not, who yells or not, it's not about how many props I get for doing good moves, it's about having a good time doing what you love, it's 100% proven that if you worry so much about what others think you'll have this fear that doesn't allow you to unlock your true potential...
graff can definitely be an addiction, but do you know why? It's because of the way you go about graff.. it's just like pornography man, it's a sexual addiction.. you get that feeling once and you want more and more each time: You aren't cool with bathroom tagging anymore so you hit more public spots, you aren't cool with bombing under overpasses anymore so you hit billboards, you aren't satisfied with just one billboard you want more so you strive to hit all the billboards on your side of town.. you know what sucks though.. you're NEVER satisfied.. you always want to do something more dangerous, see something more dirty.. why? Easy.. it's not fitting, we're not fit for so much of what we do, so the consequences suck, they leave us unsatisfied.. as for me I'm down with this fella Jesus who talked all about real satisfaction, real joy, a real sustenance that could be acquired from God through Himself that actually fills the hole in all of us that's not fit for anything else..

^^true that its a addiction. why do you think we have kings like saber, revok, the lords, twist, ja, seen and all the others? i dunno if i do graff for the rush i get from other people seein it. graff is more about me for me. i jsut do it cause i love to see my name. i dont care if someone else sees it, thats not why i like to hit more visible spots. i love to hit visible shit cause i wanna see it over and over and over...dunno its weird...

Both man. I'm like 2 different people when it comes to Graff and Bboying. During the day it's all dancing, but at night...it's a crazy rush! On a serious note, I do the stuff Trane does from Marc Ecko's: Getting Up. Like the acrobatics and stuff to hit spots...man I love the feeling ^_^

Well for me it all depends. MOST of the time I bboy. That's what I do. I bboy in school during breaks and stuff. I can't really practice my style in class cause I have no time. Gotta keep takin' notes and shit. I also Mc sometimes. Usually just freestylin' while I walk to class and stuff. I barely write anything down on pen and paper. I really want to fuckin' dj but I just can't get my hands on the materials. Costs mad money and I don't carry that kinda bank.
A basic synopsis of what I do goes like this:
Number 1: Bboying and I do this the most
Number 2: Graffiti and Mcing come together cause I spend equal time on them both I believe. I don't do both of them much anymore i don't know why.
Number 3: Well soon to be i hope djing.
And NUMBER 4: SKATEBOARDING I do this alot and I LOOOOOOOOOOVE the feeling of it. I guess you can say i'm more of a active type cause I bboy and skate alot more than i graff and mc. Recognition comes from hard work.
"but i just read you a damn story!!! ok ok, here..Once upon a bboy...."

to hypeman, do you do parkour? i used to but now i only use it for practical reasons. you guys both remind me of me last year...i go day bombing a lot now. its pretty chill if you got someone with you and if you know how to block yourself well so curious fucks dont see what youre doin...

I was never askin for a noob battle...
But yeah I could use some work on graff. I bombed up some places before. I think they all got buffed but w/e. I tried parkour. Hard shit. and scary. For now I don't do parkour or freerunning. Maybe later though. It could help while you graff though for sure. your graffin on a heaven spot. then suddenly some gypsy ass cops run upstairs and try to nail you. You pop off the roof of a building onto another. lol crazy shit.

well since i was arrested for hitting up this building complex...ive been chilling on the aerosol lately. once in a while ill get a tag up on a b-room wall or something but no serious bombing for me recently. i mean...what canigra said is what actually happens, you get hooked and want more and more. i used to sketch 24/7 cuz i was craving paint so bad. and right when you get past that mark where you want to shoot up some rusto into your veins, the feeling dies down and you can go to sleep at nite feeling better.
idk bboying gives me a huge rush when i perfect or learn a new move or work out on my style, the same w/ writing...when i randomly get inspired and come out w/ a sick piece...i love it.
basically tho...worship with your body = bboying
and worship with your mind = writing
and then there's worship w/ your soul which is music and i do that too haha

I dont have time for bboying and graffiti, so I had to choose one and I chose bboying (I dont have money for cans though). I still sometimes sketch a little, do murals with my ex-crew members and tag around when I feel like it.
And I disagree a little with the bboying=worship your bosy and writing=worship your mind. Bboying is also thinking, creating and expressing. If I couldnt express things dancing, I'd probably given it up for writing.
