most of the oldest and greatest heads will readily name the people that influenced them. the only real way this shit can be passed on is through mentoring. The saddest thing is to see ultra skilled motherfuckers that refuse to pass their shit down to the next cat. When i was starting out there weren't too many people that could teach shit to the youngers. i was left for a long time to fend for myself and learn to draw on my own. Yeah, there were plenty of brothers dying to teach me the street element of shit, but back then, most of the writers were living 35hrs north. The few guys i knew that brought it down my way were great assets in showing me the ropes. I try my best to pay back what i can to forward the artform as should any. But, to answer your question, yeah, mentoring is a big part of how this shit has survived all these years
yeah dude nd pretty much every1 in2 graf here at bboy.org all help each other out with stuff, thats wot its all about..... gettin comments nd feed back on ur shit - wots gud, wots bad nd wots ugly ect.
which means, your questions should always be answered. just ask them. the only thing is, not many who have been around the block a few times will help someone that isnt willing to learn. you have to want to do it, even the boring parts that take too long. Too many people want to shortcut the system and all they do is come up with wack shit that might confuse those who dont know anything, but get dissed by other writers.
yeah like kids tryin wildstyles in ther very first sketches nd stuff
nd then gone gets sick ov tellin all the noobs over nd over agen 2 start simple, crawl b4 walk, walk b4 run, try blockletters first, loose all the extentions.... ect ect ect
i am where i am now because of this site.... 1st joined here because i wanted to bboy, but when i saw the graff forum it appealed alot more to me, mainly because i loved art anyway but yeah... this forum helped alot, especially if there is no1 that can help you out where you live, this is the next best thing..
I'll always bring some deep constructive criticism to the table, you just need to construct something first.. I've had people come to me asking me how I draw graffiti and I've shared some of my techniques with folks here and there.. mentor? that's more intense then what I've ever done.. I am working on a blog that shares step-by-step how I create graff.. I'll let you know about it as soon as i finish it..
