Talking Airbrushing. - 05-26-2007, 12:30 AM

Hey there, hi there, ho there.
So here's the dealio, I've been using spraypaints and whatnot for a while now, so I thought I'd try something new. Which would be airbrushing..I got equipment and whatnot..all I need is the paints..

Any suggestions as to what kinds are good for Canvas/clothing?

Open thoughts and ideas are also appreciated ..

paints for canvas are different from paints for clothes. you can use pretty much any paint in an airbrush, it just has to be thin enough to go through and not clog. you need to decide whether you want to paint opaque or transparent, that would also have a lot to do as to what paints you buy. they make special airbrush paint...it can be pricy, and like i said you'll need to pick either opaque or transparent. brands really don't matter if you're just starting out...test out different ones and see which you like for what effects.

other than that...all you need is your frisket, your airbrush, your compressor, and your exacto knife and you're good to go. have fun, airbrushing can get pretty frustrating, but it's all practice.

Aight airbrushing is the topic.....first thing is first....
1) find out what you want to airbrush (shirts, jeans, hats, even walls)
2) do your research on how an airbrush works.
Ok now i suppose you did your research.....So painting shirts hats and jeans is what you want to do. I been doin this shit for 5 years so trust me i know my stuff. Doing cloths takes hard work, patients, and PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE... Make sure you have a "double-action" airbrush ($30+) and a compressor ($200+) with no less then 60 psi. next is the paint. make sure that it is acrylic paint and not oil based. acrylic paint rubberizes as it setles into the cloth. Next is getting an easel that can be bought for like $20 @ a local arts and crafts store. then a board to put under you shirt so that the paint wont bleed to the other side of the shirt. Now make sure you have and iron and a blow dryer. Time is gonna be on your side so dont try to rush and make money untill you have your basics down (dagger strokes, e loops, L loops, thick and thin lines). Dont put your self in a pradicament that can ruin your reputaion as an airbrush airtist......DONT THINK THAT IF YOUO COULD USE A SPRAY CAN THAT YOU WILL AUTOMATICALLY KNOW HOW TO AIRBRUSH
