Taggers: Real Writers? -
03-03-2007, 09:12 PM
What do you guys think? Are taggers real writers. What I mean is, say you got a guy, who cant draw burners or pieces for shit. Cant throw up a good throwie unless its a simple block or bubble letter. But, if that guy could get a decent of good handstyle up, all over the place, would you consider him a writer? IMO, I would. I think up is up. And depending in where they hit, it can be pretty dope. But do you think other writers (say guys who do bigass bombings and wildstyles, in crazy places, etc.) would give him props?
I for one, tag more than I do throwies, because I find it quick, and more versatile, at least in my town. And in a sense, I find it more fun, for some reason. I also feel it levels the playing field. I really cant draw graff that well. I still blackbook all the time, but just havent gotten the feel of it yet, but I dont believe that means I shouldnt be able to get my name up, just because I cant do amazing stuff yet.
I just always think back to Taki, who started the whole trend. Graff started as just tagging, but I dunno, lol.
What do you guys think?

yea ur a writer IMO but at least do a outline once in a while... i mean, tags all the time? thats lame, if im gonna go bombing i wanna do something noticeable... not just some tag that might not even have some good style and shit.... idk, maybe it is that im discousgted how everyone here tags but dont do fills and stuff.... like at my skool, i took my sketchbook and i asked like 10 guys that do graffiti and all of them told me they cant sketch and piece for shit, yet they still tag...

Both get you up but sticking to only tagging limits you. Maybe some people will give you respect for tagging all over the place but others like myself expect to see more from an artist. I mean would you respect a bboy who only did toprock and nothing else? Youd say 'hey thats some great toprock' (if he was good at it) but it's doubtful you'd say 'hey what a great bboy'.

I dunno. I have different views on stuff. It seems hip hop has changed so much over the years. I mean, take "bboys" for instance. Back in the day, from what Ive heard, it was just a term for Hip Hop heads, AKA Beat Boys (Id like an OG to correct me if Im wrong) and like, they just danced...I mean, Im not from back then, but from what I can gather, it didnt seem like there were "divisions", well there were Im sure, but not as fierce as before. Ive seen vids where poppers battled bboys. Ya know? And like, now graff seems so divided. Taggers, Toys, Writers, Bomberes, etc. etc....I dunno, I may just be blowing off steam, and Im probably wrong, but its just what I think...

Well, since he's only putting up tags, he'd be considered a tagger. I remember hearing somewhere that writers do everything, tags, throwies, pieces, etc. But I call anyone a writer, even if they only tag.

most taggers anyways move up to doing bigger stuff. USUALLY. I don't care whether all they do is tag unless they annoy me or get in my way.
(i need to start up again.)
