Coloring 3-d - 01-17-2006, 08:17 PM

ok I just drew the one 3-d style, but I have no idea how to color it, do I just use the same color with lighter shades or 2 colors(one as shadow or what?)
since there isn't a guide (yet?) can someone explain this?

BTW: it's sorta similar to a DAIM piece...just not as good lol

umm? graffiti isn't about guides...try something, if it works, it works, if it doesn't, it doesn't.

3-dimensional graffiti is a lot harder than you're thinking, i can tell you that right off the bat, i realize you're just starting and w/e, but i wouldn't get involved with it until you have decent 2-dimensional letters. of course, no one ever listens to me...but..

if you're working 3-d, when you're coloring, keep in mind the rules that govern any type of 3-d rendering. especially lighting, make sure u are aware of the light source, and the 5 parts of light (highlight, direct light, core shadow, shadow area, and area of reflected light)...damn, i sound like an art teacher. and of course the basics of color theory apply. now i could lecture you about all these things...but you're going to learn it a lot faster if you just try shit and see what works and what doesn't.

my opinion, - 01-17-2006, 11:34 PM

ok, what i do when i'm tryin 3-d is that i just take 2 random colors and see if they look good together. if they do, then i have a bomb, if they dont, i pick another 2 random colors. . . .lol, remember, keep it simple. . .

One day a little child asked, "Jesus, how much do you love me?"

And he said, "this much," and spread out his arms and died on the cross. . .
if you believe this too, put this as your signature.

a color wheel will be of no use to you if you've been writing for that long. a color wheel shows you how to compliment colors and shades, to balance the colors and keep the schemes matching in tone and color. you can buy then at any art store for like $1 or you can view them online for free (google it)

and i don't really mean to be stepping on your toes or anything, but it really sounds to me that you're inexperienced at writing from most of your posts that i've read to the questions you've asked.
