then the cap isnt designed for the can.. what type of cans are you using? male or female, and same question with the cap.. but if no paint comes out, well obviously it doesnt work so try a different cap.. if the cap is clogged up with paint, soak it in some turps, white spirit or paint stripper..

the valve is probably fucked, the cans must be trash.

Think about it, you have writers learning the ins and outs of entire transport systems, risking serious injury even death, arrest and criminal records that would limit your opportunities for the rest of your life, for what? To simply paint a picture, does this seem logical to you? If the answer is no then it is most likely that you don’t fathom the idealism behind graffiti.

Male and female...
If the cap has a piece that inserts into the valve on the can, it's a male cap and a female can.

If the can has a piece of the valve sticking up that fits into the underside of the can it's a male can and a female cap.
As an example - almost all domestic aerosols (cleaner, air freshener and deoderant) are male cans and female caps.
Most spray paints are female cans.

I've had cans where the valve has been broken from the start.
Other times the valve works, but if the paint hasn't been shaken right to start with, the unmixed contents can sometimes clog the straw on the inside that the paint comes up.

I had a can that just coughed up raw pigment once cos I hadn't shaken it (missed it out somehow when i was shaking them all)

With that one I shook it and then kept spraying until it worked. Had to butcher a cap to make it work without clogging a ton of caps in the process too.

Whatever you try be careful. Cans are presurrised and are bloody dangerous if you don't treat them right.

A bboy without style, is like a broken pencil.

There's just no point.

my guess is it's cheap paint, and it's been pretty cold in your area? the seal around where you put the cap in is probably stiff and starting to crack.

just get some new paint.

2 things that can cause it to come out under the cap and not through it.

1> Wrong cap. There's more variation than just male and female. For example a Belton valve is narrower than a Montana one. Montana caps will not fit on a Belton can, and using a belton one on a Montana, while it works, doesn't quite give a perfect seal and that can cause a little leakage.

2> Clogged cap. Not necessarily blocked, but partially blocked up. Can restrict paint flow and the paint then flows between the cap stem and the sides of the valve throat.

A combination of 1 and 2 can be common.
