Graf only in Hip Hop scene... -

Hey. I was thinking the other day. Is graffiti, in the traditional sense of wildstyle, bubbles, handstyle, etc. only apparent in the hip hop genres? Now, I only do pen and paper stuff, but to all the writers out there, is all your stuff inspired (bad word but I dont know how to phrase it) by hip hop? Now, like I said, Im talking in the traditional sense. Not like street art with messages like political change and stuff. Ill post more later, I just want to see what everyone says for now.

fuck no
Think about it, you have writers learning the ins and outs of entire transport systems, risking serious injury even death, arrest and criminal records that would limit your opportunities for the rest of your life, for what? To simply paint a picture, does this seem logical to you? If the answer is no then it is most likely that you don’t fathom the idealism behind graffiti.
i listen 2 sum hip hop but i wunt say any ov my work is inspired by it, and sum people say that your style reflects how you feel n shi but i aint sure bout tht neeva.

i don't think it's limited to hip hop at all. The reason it fits so nicely with hip hop is it's a non-violent way to express yourself and you can often settle hostilities or anxieties by writing without physically hurting anyone. This is a characteristic that originally existed in all elements of hip hop.
I think it should be noted that as far as the urban trend of writing your name on a wall in the most places you can happened BEFORE two very important elements of hip hop happened: DJing and Rapping. B-boying was being developed, but they really didn't become correlated and packaged as a whole culture until much later.
In that sense, graff is an entity all to itself that by later association became part of the culture of hip hop.
