i use color pencil all the time; use them in some way in about every single b-book piece i do. Mostly for fill. Some hints on using colored pencil:
- if you color over any layer of colored pencil with a good brand of white colored pencil (i.e. prisma, faber-castel, ticonderoga) it will make the initial color look nice and smooth
- white can be used to make very neat affects.. for example in this
piece for the 3D i started with a heavy layer of white color pencil then i went across with colors and it created a .. umm i don't know what to call it.. its like a fading effect or something.
- colored pencils also shade extremely well at least the good brands do, i'd shade with a good color pencil before shading with a marker any day.
- and keep in mind the same strokes you use with a marker to make a smooth fill must also be used with a colored pencil. If you color in your fill randomly and not with strokes in one direction then it won't look as good..
holla!
nothing but color pencils were used on this piece..... (ok i lied the black outline was with flat black BIC pen
