hahaha cool. This place might take some getting used to, and the battles have always been the best part. But just keep in mind that this is a place for the less experienced to learn more than it is for the more experienced to show off.

hey guys,

so i just joined the forum/threads and i've been lettering for only a couple months or so, but heres some of my work. As you can see i only have sharpies to work with, and i know im prolly going too far having lame styles added on the letter but i just wanted to see how a "finished" piece would look from me. So all suggestions appreciated. Lastly what markers should i be using, i've unfortunately only been using sharpies which i can't practice blending with, so give me a brand to try out so i can practice more and start making some real pieces.

yeah. you shouldnt be worried about markers right now. you should concentrate on pencils and pens lol.

first try at a not solid fill and with colored pencils... (cant see because i didnt color dark enough) and i dont have a color for the 3d

compared to what? That pic is the exact reason we stress simple letters. You have to crawl before you run. There are no exceptions. If you dont know basic typography principles, attempts at letter styles will fail. All you will end up with is something that looks like you tried to fake it. Because any brother that knows letters can see right through that shit. I will say that you have alot less to learn than some of the other posts in here, but you still have a long way to go. Learn letters. Like comic book letters, like magazine title letters. learn about serifs and sans serif letters. all of that shit until you have it mastered and THEN you wont even have to ask about learning style because it will come by itself.
