FLOW - some thoughts to share. - 11-01-2009, 09:51 PM

Wrote this note on FB talkin bout 'flow' from my point of view, just wanna share it in here with y'all. Hopefully it'll give some a new perspective in sketching!

Gone if you think it's irrelevant to the forum feel free to get rid of it.

(ps. ignore the 'lahh's, that's a slang used in Msia hahah)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My latest motto - no flow, no go.

What's flow? Flow to me is everything, it's everywhere in anything and everything you see, touch, hear, do..etc. Imagine if your blood stops flowin. Or your eyes are open 24/7 and blinks only once in your lifetime (by the time you open your eyes you're dead, lol). Or...your car tyres stops rollin. All these are examples of flow being interrupted - meaning something's gone wrong. Simply put, die lahh.

How is flow important to the entire motherfuckin universe? It's just important and that's the way it is. But many of us are not aware of it - the power of FLOW. Even T-Pain missed out an 'F' in his 'Low, low, low, low...' See? That's how subtle its existence could be. Just kiddin. The melody of that line has the best flow ever to go with the lyrics - 'Low' , hence the perfect marriage between melody & lyrics, and the result - a chart toppin hit song. No, not because of AutoTune or his big ass hat, because of FLOW. It is also, of utmost importance to a piece of art, be it a photograph taken or a mural/graffiti, etc etc. Flow is what carries the piece, and what makes the piece stand strong on its own, it is what makes a piece of art visually or audibly pleasant. Flow further determines how far a piece of artwork can go - great pieces of artworks/music display a distinctive flow, which is also pleasant to the audience/public, i define as 'the ones who make the decision'.

To create flow, consistency is required. So is the balance in proportion. Flow is smooth. Try drawing a circle on a rough surface, and it'd be fucked, so fucked. No flow, you know? So no go. I hardly remember anything i learnt before in Science but i bet there's no such thing as 'square' atoms. Asbjorn Lonvig was inspired by curiosity and came up with his artwork - 'square atoms'. Ok ok creative..bla bla blah. But to be ultimately creative - you have to use your brains, fellow artists. The answer is obvious - when you break everything around us down to their most basic forms - you'd find ONLY round particles/nucleus/atoms, whatever the terms are in Science. So by drawing squares after squares, and naming it 'square atoms', they're still squares. A gimmick doesn't change the fact that all we see is squares.

Therefore CIRCLES are full of wonders - ask them poi spinners. It flows beautifully from one circle into another, from clockwise into anti-clockwise (if u don't jerk the motherfucker of course) into creating a pattern. When you look at Wade Robson dance with the amount of flow put into his movements, he almost look like a human graffiti letter. And, I've never been around the world that much, but somebody better tell me i can find fruits triangular in shape to shut my filthy mouth. Ask yourself which would you prefer - the seven natural wonders, or the seven man-made wonders of the world? Whichever one you choose, they will not be standin tall today if not for those circular molecules.

I'mma experiment with something here, to show how flow works, even in words.
(Ever wonder what punctuations are for? )

I'mma ex.periment. With, something here to show. How f.lo.w, works even in. Words.

You might think, duh, no one writes that way. But why? People even walk with their hands nowadays and we think it's cool. This says that punctuations create a flow in a speech, wherever a punctuation is used, it is to emphasize the break of a flow. You don't start a new sentence with a comma, do you? (doesn't apply to people who tYpE.LiK3.DisZzs i know..)

Fuck. Someone better stop me from thinking. Oh by the way, my other favorite motto recently - TINK TOO MUCH, NO USE! Hang on, i can continue the motto with..'go with the flow'...damn.

So, No Flow, No Go. NFNG. NeFleNeGe. Whatever.
