Haven't been to school in a while so I can't do the "mainstream school" thing. However I do go to a club every week with my crew and get some b-boyin' in. Whenever they play some wakk ass Soulja Boy or the like we just act stupid and joke around. Other than that, we attract the club's attention while we cipher. I love it.

You can't "discuss" on keeping Hip Hop alive... Go do it, Rapping, Graffiti ARTist, Bboy/Popping, DJing... Do it, and while you do it represent what HIP HOP is to you - AJTL

Yeah I've had people say I should join the dance team, I just call them dumb.
Cause well at my school it's just a group of girls that do only some weak choreography, they can't like pop or do any real freestyle dancing to songs.

The definition of lame in my book. I think most high school dance teams are like that. I could be wrong though.

Okay I have two things to say.

First of all, if you think joining a dance team is whack, then you're whack for thinking that. If a dance team asked me to join them, I'd love to. It's experience in a different way, and I'd strive to spread breaking throughout the school and I'd improve the dance team. There's no point in being like "psh, I'm no mainstream sell-out, so nah I only dance for myself!" That's utter bullshit. You shouldn't care about whether you're being sucked into the mainstream scene or not. If you're a bboy and bboying isn't big, then you should inspire and spread the cause.

Second of all, college is totally where it's at. There's usually no "mainstream" because people tend to grow up. Especially at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, the culture is so diverse and people from around the US is diverse that you'll constantly see different styles of not just music, but fashion, language, etc. The high school from which I graduated was very small, so it wasn't that mainstream. Besides... the Big Island is a lil slow compared to mainland style. It's like there's a delay across the ocean. Haha.

I don't see how people at a school liking a certain type of music makes it "mainstream". I hate mainstream rap also but I could care less if someone else likes it. Doesn't affect me one bit. If anything put your friends and other people up on some real hip hip artist. I'm not saying preach to people what they should and shouldn't listen to but don't diss someone about there taste when most likely they have never heard a real good MC besides someone who is on the radio.

My school is only partially mainstream I guess there's a lot of people into underground hip-hop. We also have a hip-hop style dance club called Freestylerz. Basically, probably half and half.

I live in Southern California...

Do the math.

I'll just start off by saying the majority rappers today have no intention of supporting hip-hop culture. If you don't support the culture, then you aren't really hip-hop.
