What's House Dancing?? - 08-25-2008, 12:21 AM

I went to the VA jam Unbreakable II, it was dope, but they started playing house music and all these people that have been bboyin for years and years used to dance house, which i have never seen before. My question is: what's house got to do with bboyin? is it part of bboyin or is it a separate dance altogether?

My sister when she lived down here went to House sessions and what not.
A lot of the house dancers there were ex-bboys.

What I got from talking to her and hanging out with a few of them was that house dancing is like bboying, except a lot more relaxed. Like there isn't the mindset of having to be the best and having to battle others to prove yourself.
House dancing came from bboying though. At least I think it did.

Sorry if I am wrong about this. I haven't thought of it for a couple months.

i believe house dancing has some aspects of b-boying like the section of lofting of house dancing or that's what i've been told by this one guy who's pretty high up there you could say.

House dancing came up along side the music in the 80's in Chicago and New York. It does have some elements of b-boying but you couldn't say that it came from b-boying...they developed seperately. It also has a lot of elements of jazz, lindy hop, latin dances, and other 80's dances like the Wop. The major element of the dance is the Jack which is a wave you put through your torso on beat.

It is a totally seperate dance from b-boying. And the connection comes from the fact that in the 80's and 90's jams in most scenes either didn't exist or only happened once every a year or couple of years. The only places that b-boys could go and dance and be accepted were in house clubs so a lot of b-boys learned both styles. A lot of big name b-boys from that era are also house dancers; A lot of the original members of Havikoro (a combination of two crews, one of which was a housing crew)...especially Marlon, Abstract from Skill Methodz, most of Circle of Fire, and I believe Remind. You'll see a lot of house influence in the tops of b-boys of that era if you go back and watch early Freestyle Sessions, Radiotron, or early out for fame battles.

Both Remind and Crumbs were originally house dancers, I was just talking with Ziggy about it yesterday.

Even today you see a large mixture of Housers and bboys, there is 18+ House club here in Newport (I think its Newport) that most of the bboys I session with go to on Tuesdays to dance.

OC/IE has a lot of housy toprock, especially the Jedi-Breakers/Abstract kids.
