Breaking and bboying are the more enlightening terms... your title and your argument contradict each other lol.

I consider a breakdancer, someone who just does the dance and the moves.

And bboys to me, are people whom know the culture and live the lifestyle.

You can get into all the philosophy and self righteous mumbo jumbo but really they're the same thing. Breakdancing is just the term that EVERYBODY knows, the media. Bboy is just a term that we use. Seriously go on the street and ask people if they know what bboying is and less than half of people will. Then ask if people know what breakdancing is and EVERYONE will say, "Ohhh yeah, that stuff is cool!"

Breakdancer -- A person who uses dancing as a skill to show off and be considered cool for the talent.

Bboy -- Someone who is dedicated to getting better at breaking everyday and who represents what hip hop really is and tries to spread the knowledge and take those stuck in the mainstream out of ignorance.

eDIT: I actually believe they're the same thing, but I talked to a really good friend who's a bboy and he defined them by these terms which I also believe does enhance the view of what a real bboy dancer is versus what a person who wants to show off is.

They mean the same thing, we just prefer to use Bboy.
Some Bboys(mostly e-boys, no offense) are the ones who are really touchy about this.
