Do you ever...? - 05-10-2008, 11:18 PM

Do you ever get angry when you're practicing a move? For example, I've been practicing windmills lately, and i try to remember it comes with time, but it's hard when the floor is always dining on my shoulder. It feels like it's impossible, and I hate that. Trial and error sucks.

Make sure your practices are a learning and productive experience. Not a boring and repetitive one. In fact, can you believe you're supposed to look forward to practice?

yes. the most annoying move for me to learn was 6 step actually, because i would not practice anything else at all, not even a toprock, until i got it 100% perfect and could repeat atleast 10 clean ones without messing up.(which took me about 2 1/2 weeks).

Also windmills. within 5 days i got down my first swing. but after a messed up collapse mixed with me forgetting to stretch and warm up caused a sprain wrist. this was a week and a half ago.

yea bboying for me has been hard for me all over. out of my 2 months of bboying about 3 weeks of that i havent even been able to practice. i gotta learn to never be like "oh ill just skip stretching and warm up day what could happen."

I do look forward to practice, but with some things it feels more like drilling. But thanks for the advice, much appreciated.

That wasn't it all, when you got a moves down. Like 6 steps, you got it real clean with speed. You keep hang on to it and still practicing. A week after, it looks sloppy than it should be. Get what I mean?

hahahah yeah dude. i'd always have to set a goal for something. 6 step for example. i'd have to maintain my level, do it at a certain pace, not slip or misplace my foot. i did all of these at a set standard, (obviously not perfect or else id never take a break :P). and i'd do them 5 times at the standards that i set for them and not stop until i do it. i usually end up practicing a 6 step for a long time lol

Lol...

Anyway. I used to. But you then gotta ask yourself...why are you so insistent on getting the move quickly? The only way to have fun and to train productively is to *not* train. By that I don't mean don't practise moves, what I mean is don't have the mentality of "I will do this a gazillion times or I'm just wack". Throw some good music on, let the good times roll in, and then WHIP that mafuggah 'coz you *WANT* to, not 'coz you have to.

It's helpful to train with other people to aid the good times.
