Something Ive Been Pondering - 04-13-2005, 10:38 PM

Hey, whats up. Here the deal. I know the Boying and Graff, etc. all evolved from the hip hop culture. For years I always thought of the latter as rap, like, well you know the big names. But I always thought I was missing something. I always listened to rap and metal and thought it impossible that someone liek that could get into the hip hop culture. After I while I got really into techno. I loved (and still do) love it. I just loved the way it was all done digitally or with turntables. So I figured why not open myself up more to this artform. Well, I decided to give Hip Hop a try. Ive been breaking/popping for a bit and am trying my hand at DJ'ing. Now what Im wondering is this. Is Hip Hop so secluded that its it own, well, I dunno how to put this, thing? Or does it go over into other subcultures: punk, techno, rave, etc. I know its kinda a vauge question but Im wondering. Also, if anyone could let me know some GOOD hip hop, like more instrumental than rap, lmk. Thanks!

pretty much every culture is secluded. a culture is what it is because of its seclusion. the bleeding of cultures comes on a personal level, if you want to take your love for the hip hop culture and your love something else and combine them, do what you love man. but then it won't technically be hip hop, but i guess it'd be hip hop influenced. but do what you love, an stay lovin what you do.

I think that the type of music you listen to is just an extension of who you are, and if you think " HIP HOP" and "METAL" is who you are, then that's exactly what you can do (well, combining them)

It's all about expression, and if you wanna do that because you feel it necassary to express yourself or forfill yourself, then you damn well do it.
