awesome quotes - 03-22-2005, 10:36 PM

hey, just doing my school readings and i just realized how many great quotes i've heard all year (or ever for that matter).

So, megots thinking to post some cool quotes and see what other people find dear to them or just awesome in general. Be it funny, ironical, inspiring.. it doesn't matter, just show me what y'all got. Personal maxims, truisms, pessimistic approaches, etc are all good.

Here's some to start:

"... man is an obscure text to himself" - Abraham Heschel

"The rich need to live more simply so that the poor may simply live" - Marx

"Man is caught in webs of significance that he himself has spun" -Max Weber <---- my favourite quote of the year

"Be a philosopher, but amidst all your philosophy, be a man" - Hume

"Hip hop's not dead, it's really the mind of the emcee" K-Os, Emcee Murdah

"If skills sold, Truth be told,
I’d probably be, Lyrically Talib Kweli,
Truthfully I want to rhyme like Common Sense,
But I did 5 mil,
And I ain’t been rhyming like Common since" - Jay-Z, moment of clarity

get 'em comin' y'all

nice quotes, I really like the Kierkegaard one

"The man who has no tincture of philosophy goes through life imprisoned in the prejudices derived from common sense, from the habitual beliefs of his age or nation, and from convictions which have group up in his mind without the co-operation or consent of his deliberate reason" -Russell

"Of course my morality is superior to all others, or else I'd change it" -DaedelusNemo (a guy from a different forum)

"It costs $2.99 a minute to talk dirty on the phone while it costs 60 cents to support a third world child. That means that an hour of phone sex could support 299 starving children across the world. Now if only we could get third world children to talk dirty to us on the phone. . .[all our problems would be solved]" - Some Jewish Comedian I saw on Just for Laughs

"You're either married and bored, or single and lonely. Ain't no happiness no where" -Chris Rock
