question about my height and exercising - 12-20-2003, 08:38 AM

hey guys, i got a question, im 15 and im 5ft 3". i was wondering if i start doing exercises like push ups and chin ups e.t.c. will it stunt me growth, i heard someone talk about this before

Hmm. I dont think doing push ups or chin ups will stunt ur growth. But weight training will, thats if u do like 10kg dumbells. I do push ups all the time and I'm still growin. I tone with 2kg dumbells tho. But I don't really have the time to work out. Just break to get more strength.

I think push ups etc should be fine to do, im 13 and do push ups and sit ups every night for breakin.

But if i were you i wouldent start doin weights just yet..

just do a little reading around their forums and you'll most certainly gain the knowledge you're looking for... ask your questions there, dude... most of the users there are over 25, and the only reason they go there is to help one another...

i myself started working out (weight training) when i was 16, and i still grew quite a bit... but i've always heard the vets tell me how doing squats do affect one's growth...

heh, of course, there's a difference between just plain lifting, and body building... when i was 16-18, i just lifted for power... now i'm more serious about it, and i do it for love of the sport... i now watch my diet, and do it using my brain mostly....

i've actually read that squats are the exercise that causes the body to release the most HGH(human growth hormone) so if anything it would cause you to grow more...and go to

i stopped growing after 5'1 and 3/4 but i'm a girl so its ok. besides being short gives u an advantage when bboying...it's easier i think and it looks better. and no weights wont stunt your growth, but the key is always moderation.....if u get too bulky, u look like a body builder.

truthfully...its almost impossible to get as big as one of those body builders you would see on tv without using steroids or prohormones...and even with that stuff genetics plays a major role so looking like a body builder is kind of a far-fetched idea, but it also depends on what your idea of looking like a bodybuilder is...

nah if you lift weights knwo thats another story. If you do things like cleans or squats that will get your growth stunned like crazy trust me im 17 and im 5'5 and havent growed shit since i started doing them last year. I quit after 9 months since i was filling bad about the whole being short process.
nah push ups and shin ups will help your bboying man especially inthe arm freezes and stuff like that.

to know if u need a diet or not get ur mass in kg square it and devide it by ur height in cm and if ur answer is less than 30 that means that ur weight is fine n udnt need a diet
