Cool What do you think of b-boys teaching you does it motivate you or not? - 09-26-2009, 06:55 AM

Personaly before i started b-boyin I was looking at some insane video clips on youtube and this movie *i'm sure evryone must have seen it or know it Planet B-boy*
awakend the b-boy in me. Because before that I was interested but wasn't really motivated for it. Then this passion grew up inside but after months of lack of practice. I decided to go trought breakdancing lessons with a "pro" b-boy since one
of my friend found a teacher i was absolutly stunt, especialy since it's in montreal
you don't get that kind of opportunity. After one lesson my teacher tought me the very basics of b-boying and i was very impressed on how knowledgeable he was!

What i've learned so far :
1.How to sync in with the beat * very natural thing to do :P *
2.Steps right left front and back
3. While doing steps kick when switching from left to right
4.Very basic top rock * i had a hard time doin the kick while switching cause i'm used
to improvised top rock :P*
5. Basic Footwork : 6 step both ways left to right and right to left :P
6.Basic Freeze: baby freeze
7. While teaching us the original baby freeze he told us to do some exercise that
would make you balance both hand * which look like doing crickets but very slowly *

And then at the end we suffered trougth musculation and endurance exercise :P
I just wonder what was and how was you're first b-boy practice and teacher
experience

*EDIT* MODS CAN MOVE THIS INTO WORD UP sorry for my noobish mistake :P

if i had a bboy teacher, help me through power moves, then i'd be intrested, but I can tell you majority of bboy.org don't have teachers, it's just a bonus if u have

Do NOT segregate power from style, just because it's easier

yep i think that alot of bboys are self taught they go on youtube and other sites to help them but i think having a teacher would be great they would tell me what i need to do to improve and what im doing wrong i think it would help me get moves down faster

It's good if you get people teaching you -wether its friends or a "teacher" of some sort. Means you can bounce ideas off one another and then it inspires u topractise. Right now I go to a class to session and i sometimes help out with the newbies (some of the girls...ooft) but theres a dude there that I think needs some help - u see he tries to copy the teacher and its a straight bite, hence he doesn't have many moves. I try and teach him but he's got an ego about him.

But yo, if you like to get taught by this dude then I would keep going - it's important you're enjoying yourself as well as just learning moves!!

My name's Supreme for a reason!

It's just an argument of whether you have more internal motivation than external motivation.

You are more likely to adhere or stick with any hobby in which you find more internal motivation, or in other words more personal enjoyment than otherwise. The otherwise being you like it when you receive compliments or the constant approval from winning battles, etc.
