Party/Event Organising *i need help* - 07-05-2009, 10:49 PM

Greetings all

I want to hold an event that will keep the spirits of the young generation alive and kicking, something for the ages of 13-25 to be able to relate to and enjoy! My organisation is called Funky Dope Fresh Entertainments, and it is run by me and my friend chris (with more to come if needed). This will be one of those feel-good parties and may occur once/twice a year if it is successful!

I just need some help on what to hold there. I was thinking of a few crew showcases and some other stuff i won't go into detail with that are not related to b-boying...but do u think they'll like a mini jam thrown in the mix? Cause hardly any1 in my community(apart from those that come to support the b-boys) knows anything about b-boying and it would be a shame to do it and not get a great response. I hope that this event will have a great turnout and will be going round the schools and universities promoting the event and such so that there will be a lot of people interested!!

Does anyone have any ideas on what to hold there for that age group/range?

Much Appreciated
Chaz

age group 13-25? Thats a pretty large target market. Is it going to be chem free? If not you better narrow that down because those little tykers will be trying to guzzle the good stuff all night long, all the while putting your ass on the line without you even knowing it. You can make it a theme party and that usually sparks some interest. Golf pros and tennis hoes, toga party, beachwear only, etc. Just some ideas. If you're going to make it an alcoholic event you better have AT least some kegs. Or make it a cash bar. This way it isn't byob, and people will be like, "yo, kegger tonight at so and so" instead of "yo I heard of this party at this random place with some dude I've never hear of, there may be middle schoolers there" You could always hold a car show as well, with a party afterwards. That will draw some people in. But like I said, 13-25 is tough because a 13 year old has a lot of different things on their mind than a 25 year old. Or you could just call up MTV made and tell them you are desperately seeking advice on how to hold a simple party and get laughed at, or they'll take you seriously and hire someone from PR to make you look good.

Anyways. Event planning is one of the things I am going to school for, and is a great way to make some cash. But it is a hassle, and requires serious hours of hard work. The nice thing is you don't need any capital up front. Simply a laptop and cell phone. Put something in the yellow pages and people will start calling looking for someone to put together their event. You make the calls, book the venues, the caterers, band, lighting, etc whatever your customer wants. Once you establish yourself you'll get referral business. I don't even know why Im still typing, I doubt your even serious. I mean really? Funky dope fresh entertainment? If you're even halfway serious then start acting a little more serious and think of a better name. And stop wasting time posting questions on a BBOY forum and start working. Sorry for being harsh but I'm being real.

Yeah im looking at that age group because I am 17 years old and its aimed for high schoolers and uni/ college cats. I don't think i'd want to sell any alcohol there, cause im looking at a swimming baths for a beach party i don't want a michael barrymore on my ass...that would be horrible! Almost like one of those gala day thingmies 'cept it wud be beach party-ish and a lil more mellow and good! The money made would go towards my gap year maybe...if i don't get enough its cash in pocket.

Yeah this is my first time planning this, I will have to look around for different materials and such and hopefully things should be good. Although I am a little disheartened by your second paragraph. And yes I am serious about this, and the name came from a phrase that I use ALL THE TIME...may not be your taste but still respect my choices. And I only posted on here because I would like to hear what they would want at something like this...but thank you for your honesty anyways

Man, good luck for real! I heard running one of these is hard work, a lot of people end up hating you or something like that. Hope everything runs well for you. Good luck again.

Man im thinking about games...if its a beach party (literally, i want it in a swimming baths) then it wud be hard to find electricity unless its like extention chords lol. Im thinking the main thing that will be allowed to happen is like chilling beside a pool w/ music (im guna hav 2 get a breaks dj or maybe a club dj to help) and just generally have fun, meet new people, cause there will be a lot of minors there (including myself) no booze will be sold...but im trying for an afterparty

Find a popular local band or a better known dance group to perform and they will draw lots of people...

nah i'd just have a dance party

ohand i would NOT make the age group so large. 13-18 is reasonable, but above that, theyre going to bring alcohol and you'll have a problem on your hands

decide wtf u wanna do. is this gonan be a bboy jam comp. or a party?

Well i think ya should get some sponsers. Pitch the idea to local radio stations or bizzs and see what ya can get. And instead make it a hip hop jam not just targeting bboys. Have an open mic or mc battles (but keep it clean since you got underage involved). Dj comp, mpc battles, or even a graff showcase. Good luck

Once while walking through the mall a guy came up to me and said "Hey, hows it going?". So I grabbed his arm and twisted it up behind his head and said "Now whose asking the questions?"

Yeah im thinking ive gone a lil to vast on the age, ur probably right on having it for 13-18 year olds (but 18yo in my country is the legal age to drink :/

Obviously i want to target quite a lot of people at this event so im probably going to make it a dance-ish party, but i want some b-boys there for people to appreciate
